Question about Toshiba - Floppy disk drive - external - floppy disk - 1.44 MB - USB - black (739542) Floppy Drive

Need a USB converter for some serial thing

Needed an external floppy disk drive for my laptop and found a Toshiba on craigslist. After I drove 70 miles round trip to pick it up, I've realized that it's got some sort of serial port thing (I'm hoping somebody will know what it's called) and not a USB. What the heck? It looks new -- how old can it be? What kind of converter can I use on it?

Appreciate any help.

Dynex puts out a usb to serial adapter can be bought at best buy for somewhere around 15.00 you will need the drivers from the cd to make it work and then will probably have to set the port it is looking for that should be all you need

How to use Toshiba PA2669U in my pc. I can't find for this cable connector? how to convert to usb?

Are you connect to pc or laptop? if to pc, you can try remove floppy drive ext casing and plug with ide cable  to motherboard and plug to power also. If not, you need to find converter for that. it is to difficult to find this converter as long today many people already dont use it. What ever, you can find it through online.

I want to convert to usb drive a model pa2669u fdd . are there any converting cables for this? thanks joe shimchick

Thats looks like a proprietary connector, you will not find a cable that will convert that fdd to USB, sorry :|
Anyway I doubt the cable would be much cheaper than a new USB external FDD.

New Dell Internal / External USB Floppy Drive 1.44Mb

It would appear that you may need to do a couple of things in order to restore the drive back to normal. I would disconnect the drive using the icon provided to this effect and doing it after the message says it's safe to disconnect it.
If the message says differently, I would still disconnect it, unles you're in the middle of writing, which you're not.
Upon reconnecting the drive, should the condition persist, I would recycle the laptop and try again. It does not make sense that a disk that you recently read from to burn a CD is no longer readable, unless the mechanism inside the drive had collected debris that caused the data on your floppy to be ruined. That would be an unfortunate disaster.
If rebooting the laptop still fails to read the disks, then try blowing any dust or dirt from inside the drive using one of those small canisters of compressed air that people use to clean their keyboards and other devices and try again.
Should the condition persist, try loading the floppy disks on another system to see whether they've been ruined by your drive.
If they are readable, then the drive would appear to be deffective.
Good luck!

External drive shuts down the Toshiba 460CDX/2.1. OS is 2000. I do not have Admin rights to add Hardware, the Admin is no longer available. The CD writes does not write to a CD only plays CD's. I need to...

The external cd drive should be having both CD and DVD options, that is Combo Drive or Super CD Drive where you can write all your data on to the DVD - eitherway it can be done. You can copy the data from DVD / CD on to your toshiba laptop.

Best solution is replace the exisitng laptop to a latet one with Vista option. Will solve your probllm. Otherise try to contact the local authrozed hardware engineer to assist you in solving this problem.

Good Luck.

Data off 486

If you really sure that the floppy is damaged and canot read even a reformated or formated brand new floppy then are only way out of this to get your files is networking (Assuming that the AST 486 does not have USB port or a CD writer)
  1. Use infra-red to network your laptop with another laptop to get your fules sent (Check i am not quite sure if hthis laptop model AST 486 have infrared, if it have a brown small patch on it around its perimeter then hurey it got it)
  2. You can use direct parallel cables to nework your laptio with anyother computer and get your files. please note you will need the parallel network cable and setting up the network (assuming you are using an old OS as well cause XP can configure your network automatically)
  3. If it has USB (which i doubt) the use a flash stick, or CD writer (I doubt again) then just burn a disk, or use an old external hard drive or external CD writer which comminicates throught the serial port.
