How do I remove the fan from the motor shaft?

Thanks. I am familiar with steering wheel pullers. However, the motor shaft is not visible in the center of the fan so there is nothing for the puller to push against. The fan is like a cap that goes over the end of the motor shaft. I think it may screw on but I can not budge it.

You need a blade puller.

It is a tool that grips the fan blade from behind, and as you turn the screw that sits at the end of the shaft it pulls the fan off the shaft.

Never hit the end of the shaft with a hammer, as it can mushroom the shaft end, an prevent the fan from coming off.

You can get a puller from most HVAC supply houses, and sometimes at Hardware stores.

Its similar to a steering wheel puller.

Is there an allen wrench screw? Is the shaft whole round or does it have a flat spot?

How do I clean dryer squirrel cage?

To remove drum/fan drive motor:

• Remove rear panel & rear air duct. Remove belt from belttensioner. Remove top panel & drum if needed for better access.
• Disconnect terminal connector from motor, then remove two screws from motor mount & one screw holding fan to front shield. Lift rear of motor mount up and slide entire assembly toward rear of dryer.
• While holding motor shaft, not rotor fins, remove fan blade from motor shaft. Remove three screws, then remove fan housing from motor.
• Remove spring clamps by pushing ends of them down and away from motor. Lift motor up from motor mount.

Cage motor is the best blow out with compressed air. Also, by the way, clean the fan housing from the inside.

How to remove fan from back side of 80 series dryer so motor can be removed?

Hello John Bailey,

I believe if you look very closely... you will
see a splined (bronze) center bushing in the center
of the squirrel cage fan: Check for REVERSE threads.

A little penetrating oil and some FIRM pressure
should be sufficient to get the fan moving...

Force nothing ...

To get the ACTUAL cost of the FAN if you
BREAK it... you will need a COMPLETE model number...!!

Then go to... ( I don't recommend SEARS)
Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts

Or shop on eBay for VERY competitive prices.

Hope this helps

HE3 fan replacement

1 Pull the plug for the Kenmore dryer out from the electrical socket. Move the Kenmore dryer away from the walls or any obstructions behind so that you can work on it safely.

2 Remove the lower front panel from the Kenmore dryer. These are usually secured with screws at the sides. Once the panel is removed, locate the blower, which is a circular shaped object connected by a belt to the Kenmore motor. If you cannot locate the blower, then it is mounted on the back of the machine.

3 Remove the rear service panel by loosening the screws holding it in place. Pull the panel aside.

4 Loosen and remove the fan blower belt. Locate the tension pulley in between the motor and the blower. Pull the tensioner back to relieve the tension on the belt. Remove the belt by pulling it off the motor and the blower.

5 Grasp the blower with one hand. Use a socket wrench and socket to loosen the blower bolt holding it in place. If the bolt is stubborn, spray it with some penetrating lubricant and allow this to soak in for a few minutes before trying again.

6 Pull the blower off the blower shaft.

How do you get the motor off of a whirlpool dryer? We are trying to replace the bulkhead, but can't get the motor and blower separated

The blower will be held to the motor shaft by one or two allen set screws. Loosen these screws and the motor will pull out. the blower fan will drop down so make sure you can somehow hold it while you pull the motor away. Obviously unbolt the motor from the chasis.

Hope that helps.

I have a kenmore 80 series electric dryer. It gets

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these: Belt Motor Door switch Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time. Click here for a belt installation diagram Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor: Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor. Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Thanks for choosing fixya...Regards, Joe

Slam downwards on the wheel and it should pop loose.
