Question about Goodman GMS80904BNA Open Flame Mid-Size Heater

Low flame signal

When the heater kicks on the flame only last seconds then it turns off by its self then it returns on and off and continues to do so until it finally stays on this is not normal and when i look at the it give's 7 flashing lights witch means low flame signal what does this low flame signal mean?

There is an L-shaped wire in the back by the flame that is the flame sensor you can take it out and take fine sand paper or emory cloth and try cleaning it

Heater cuts out but the blower still circulates the air in my house


It would be very helpful if you could provide the type of heating system (natural gas, propane, fuel oil, or electric) and the make and model number.

I recently repaired a natural gas system with a similar problem. The control circuit board had diagnostic lights flashing a code for five flame sensor failures in a cycle. The furnace would ignite a flame, then shut it off after a couple of seconds, then repeat until the fifth try. The flame sensor electrode was coated with solid material from contaminants in the gas. I polished it with Scotch-Brite (TM) and got it to work properly. What is different in this case is that the blower would also not run unless it was set to blow continuously.

Hello, looks like you limit switch keeps opening because your furnace is overheating, Check your air filter and blower wheel to make sure it is not dirty and make sure you blower motor is moving at the proper speeed. Usually when air flow is cutoff the limit switch will open.

My furnace blower kicks on and the flame lights for about 5 seconds then kicks off. I replaced the igniter recently. The service trouble light blinks continuously.


Your furnace may be kicking out on high limit. Its possible your circ. or blower fan needs to be cleaned. If you don't get enough air moving across you heat exchanger it will kick off on high limit.

HI clean the flame sensor check out the pressure switch jump this out to see if it lights clean sensor on fan control might be dirty clean heater with air line burners heat exchanger then it might be your limit switch but this help doing this other work first

Just replaced idnitor and flame sensor on a bryant model 376c and its still not kicking on. blower kicks on fans kick on and then cycles off. no heat need help


Make sure all wires are connected and the gas is on. Follow the sequence of operation for this model and a few tips on what could be the issue.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Flame goes out when fan kicks on


If the flame lights all the burners within 2 seconds but does not stay on, you may need to clean the flame rod found at the farthest end of the burner box. It will be located at the end of the box that lights last. It will be a probe that is in the flame of the last burner. If it has carbon on it or scale, take an old tooth brush and scrub it. Check the wire connected to it and follow that wire back to the circuit board and check that connection.
