The push-start switch in the dryer is probably bad. The contacts inside the switch get warped over time, causing the dryer to think you pressed Start again after it finishes a cycle. Replacing that switch should solve your problem. You can find the switch online at PartSelect.com if you know take the rear panel off the dryer and see what the switch looks like.
One of you thermal switches is bad. Unplug, open back of dryer, check with tester every switch with two wires attached, one to each side. They are round (quarter size) and some are 1/4" by 2". One of these are bad, causing dryer not to heat up.
is this a traditional kenmore dryer. Check your temperature selection switch in your counsel. It should have a small resistor on it. It should read about 10 ohms. if not than change the switch. That resistor is used when you set your selector on low heat. if it checks oout ok, the i would check your thermostat on the bottom panel. Like i said if this is a traditional kenmore dryer. You didnt really give a model number or brand of dryer. but if its a kenmore, try checking it out with a multi meter.
Two possibilities: 1) Least likely cause. Start button is not opening when released. Don't know how far you wish to go with this but it will require some troubleshooting. 2) Most likely cause. Motor start switch has a set of contacts that close when the dryer starts and this set of contacts "seals" around the push button. If this is the case, a new switch is in order. Switch is normally replaceable without replacing the motor. Other option is use "as is".
