Question about LaCie F.A. Porsche (301177) Hard Drive
I have two LaCie hard drives that have been hooked up to a PC (with a Windows 2000 Professional OS) and working fine for several years. I accidentally unplugged the battery on one of them while it was turned on and connected to the computer. I tried hooking it back up to the same PC and it will not work, but the other one that didn't get unplugged and is the exact same model works fine! The device manager is giving me a code 10 error saying it's not working properly (has a yellow ! sign next to it). And when I click on driver details, it lists the same driver as the functioning hard drive. I also tried hooking the HD onto two different PCs (running Windows XP) and the files don't open at all. On one of those PCs there is no device manager error and no yellow ! sign. It says the hard drive is hooked up properly but it doesn't list it under the My Computer folder and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to access the files on it. Is there any way to recover the data on this hard drive? I tried downloading the LaCie USB 2.0 driver for it and it won't do it since all the computers I've tried have higher than Windows 98 OS. Any help at all would be much appreciated!
Solution is on http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic18654.html ...
- Start > Run > type ‘regedit’ (without the speachmarks) > Enter
- Single-click on ‘My Computer’ > File > Export > save it to the Desktop (Always best to have a backup!!)
- Go to the following:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDeviceP olicies
*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*
- Double click on the string ‘WriteProtect’ and change the ‘Value Data’ box to ‘0’
- Then: File > Export > save somewhere useful as something like ‘StorageDevicePolicies001.reg’
- You also need to do this for the strings in any folders called ‘ControlSet***’ (* = any Digit, i.e. 001, 002) – for example: Everything is the same, just change ‘CurrentControlSet’ to ‘ControlSet***’
