Question about LaCie F.A. Porsche (301177) Hard Drive

LaCie Hard Drive, design by F.A. Porsche, USB 2.0 won't open

I have two LaCie hard drives that have been hooked up to a PC (with a Windows 2000 Professional OS) and working fine for several years. I accidentally unplugged the battery on one of them while it was turned on and connected to the computer. I tried hooking it back up to the same PC and it will not work, but the other one that didn't get unplugged and is the exact same model works fine! The device manager is giving me a code 10 error saying it's not working properly (has a yellow ! sign next to it). And when I click on driver details, it lists the same driver as the functioning hard drive. I also tried hooking the HD onto two different PCs (running Windows XP) and the files don't open at all. On one of those PCs there is no device manager error and no yellow ! sign. It says the hard drive is hooked up properly but it doesn't list it under the My Computer folder and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to access the files on it. Is there any way to recover the data on this hard drive? I tried downloading the LaCie USB 2.0 driver for it and it won't do it since all the computers I've tried have higher than Windows 98 OS. Any help at all would be much appreciated!

There is no folder called "StorageDevicePolicies" on any of the three computers I've looked at. The thread on techspot seems to be related to write-protection issues which isn't what I'm dealing with. Any other suggestions?

Solution is on ...
- Start > Run > type ‘regedit’ (without the speachmarks) > Enter
- Single-click on ‘My Computer’ > File > Export > save it to the Desktop (Always best to have a backup!!)
- Go to the following:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDeviceP olicies

*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*
- Double click on the string ‘WriteProtect’ and change the ‘Value Data’ box to ‘0’
- Then: File > Export > save somewhere useful as something like ‘StorageDevicePolicies001.reg’
- You also need to do this for the strings in any folders called ‘ControlSet***’ (* = any Digit, i.e. 001, 002) – for example: Everything is the same, just change ‘CurrentControlSet’ to ‘ControlSet***’

I have this hard drive. I've had it for 2 years now and now all of a sudden it won't open any files. its telling me something has timed out. The computer recognizes it just fine but will not open any...

1. It fails with your computer.
2. It works with your XBOX.
3. Find another computer, and connect it.

If it works, then YOUR computer is the problem.
If it does not work, then the problem probably is with the LACIE.

I have a lacie design by F.A. Porsche 250Gig Hard drive - It has failed and is making a buzzing sound follwed by a beep - is this repairable?

Sounds like the hard drive in the Lacie has fauled.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty.
You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32.

Lacie not working

Does your drive make any unusual sounds like any of these: ?
If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads.
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all - try to connect it to another computer and if still no go - remove the internal drive from enclosure and connect directly to PC via SATA port.
