Question about GE JVM1650 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

3 Answers

Spacemaker XL1400 I just bought this microwave from a store that sells products that the new homeowners took out but that they can't sell as brand new. I am missing a few screws and I cannot locate any 1/4'-28 x 3 1/4' self aligning machine screws that I need to hold the microwave to my cabinet. I tried Lowes, home deopt and Ace's hardware store. Can anyone help me? I only need 3.

I purchased a similar unit, and I have the same problem. It was a floor model and is missing one of the self aligning screws.

I was going to try getting the same size screw, or even cut one down with a hack saw. I'm not sure what the importance is of the smooth tip, so I'm hoping this approach would work.

I found a solution for my microwave. Went to Ace and picked up some lag bolts, yellow in color (believe they said it was yellow zinc). Most common seems to be 1/4"-20, but these lag bolts had the smaller thread of 1/4"-28.

I had to go a little shorter in length because the threads don't run the entire length of the bolt. The only downside is that the top of the bolt sticks out inside the cabinet (but only about 3/16"). Well worth it so I didn't have to buy an installation kit that was in the $40-$50 range.

Sounds like you covered the bases, but I think you;'ll need to order them, possibly in an installation kit.

The installation instructions will give you a list of all the hardware you need.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Good luck!

I recently purchased an GE above the oven cooktop oven/microwave and I am concerned with the height of this unit - from the floor. My wife is vertically challenged and I don't want her spill or tilt any of the dishes when removing from the oven.

My question is this - can I simply insert 3' mounting blocks to the bottom of the cabinet shelf and lower the unit? I would replace the existing 1/4" 28" 3 1/4" self aligning screws with longer screws that 6 1/4" in length??? Do they make this type of screw in this size and is this the best way to go??? If so, does any one know where I could purchase them?

The GE Spacemaker series of microwave ovens are designed to be installed above an oven range, freeing up counter space in your kitchen. Some of these Spacemaker models are connected to an outside venting system to carry kitchen vapor and odors outside. Other Spacemaker models utilize a ductless system to do this. Removing a GE Spacemaker microwave oven isn't a difficult task, but, because of the size of some of the oven models, it is a two-man operation. Have a question? Things You'll Need

  • Assistant
  • Sharp knife
  • Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
    • 1 Open the cabinet above where the Spacemaker microwave oven is installed. If you see a vent in the cabinet leading to the Spacemaker oven below, your Spacemaker is vented. This vent needs to be disconnected before continuing with removal. Disconnect the vent either by loosening the duct clamps or by cutting the duct tape away with a sharp knife. Pull the vent out of the top of the oven.
    • 2 Have an assistant support the oven from below. Loosen the mounting screws connected to the Spacemaker through the cabinet bottom. Loosen the screws by turning counterclockwise with the Phillips screwdriver.
    • 3 Unplug the Spacemaker from the socket in the cabinet.
    • 4 Continue loosening the screws while your assistant holds the oven in place. Once the screws are removed, have your assistant slowly lower the Spacemaker down by lowering the front face at a 45-degree angle.
    • 5 Feed the power cable for the Spacemaker through the hole in the bottom in the supporting cabinet.
    • 6 Help your assistant slowly pull the Spacemaker forward and out of the mounting brackets on the rear wall. Once the Spacemaker is cleared of the mounting cabinet and rear wall, set it down.
    • 7 Remove the mounting bracket from the rear wall by loosening the screws.

Door handle broke off. where can i find another door handle for spacemaker XL1400 ?

If its made of plastic, it is better to buy a tube of plastic weld. They are extremly strong, and I have used them time and again. They are available at auto parts store, and hardware stores. They come in two tubes, and you mix them together.

My GE spacemaker xl1400 microwave quit heating. What do I do?

Cheaper to replace than to repair, buy at lowes or hd for around 300.00 bucks, to repair these things can be upwards of 400 buck, save your time and money, as most appliance techs won't work on them anymore, and go get a new one, unless it two months old then call GE.
