There are 2 seperate belts the a/c and the serp belt. In order to change the belts, there is a special tool that you will need to purchase or rent from Auto Zone. Without this tool you can not replace the belt. Once you get the tool it's one bolt that turns and lets the tension off the pulleys in order to replace the belts. Just did this last week on MY FX35.

How to change a belt on a 1995 Buick Century

A listing of serpentine belt diagrams can be found HERE. It will show you the location of the tensioner pulley, which must be loosened in order to remove and install the new belt. When the new belt is on, just readjust the tension via the tensioner pulley.

Altenator tension arm has no spring causes belt sqeal and engine to die out.how to cahnge tension arm

Your truck has one belt and one idler pulley. To tighten it you will need a large bar (a breaker bar, crowbar or large screwdriver will work) Loosen the idler pulley bolt (not all the way) just enough to break it loose then use the bar against the pulley to tension the belt. If there are parts missing from the idler pulley, a new one must be purchased.

How do I change the ac belt on my 2500HD Silverado.

UNDER THE HOOD IS A DIAGRAM OF HOW THE BELT IS ROUTED. TAKE NOTE OF THE WHITE STICKER ON THE FAN SCHROUD, JUST ABOVE THE FAN. THE TENSIONER PULLEY IS THE ONE YOU NEED TO ROTATE IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE TENSION ON THE BELT FOR REMOVAL. USING A 15 OR 16 MM SOCKET, ROTATE THE TENSIONER UNTIL YOU RELIEVE THE TENSION AND SLIDE THE BELT OFF ONE OF THE SMOOTH PULLEYS. THEN RELEASE THE RATCHET EASY SO IT DOESN'T SPRING BACK UP. UNRAVEL THE BELT AND INSTALL THE NEW ONE USING THE DIAGRAM. JUST A HINT: IF THE PULLEY HAS RIDGES THEN THE BELT HAS TO BE ON THE RIDGED SIDE OF THE BELT, IF IT HAS A SMOOTH PULLEY, THEN IT RIDES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BELT. WHEN YOU ALMOST HAVE THE BELT ON THE LAST PULLEY, ROTATE THE TENSIONER AGAIN AND SLIDE THE BELT ON THE LAST PULLEY. IT HELPS IF THE LAST PULLEY IS A SMOOTH ONE. HOPE THIS HELPS ENOUGH TO FINISH THE JOB. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK.

How do I cahnge the belts

There's an automatic belt tensioner pulley that keeps the proper tension on the belt.
To remove the belt, get a wrench (or the Ford tool) on the center bolt of the tensioner - its the only pulley that doesn't attach to anything, ie power steering, alt, water pump etc - and turn it away from the belt. When its loose enough, you can remove the belt. Remember how it goes on!

There is a square hole for a 1/2 socket or a bolt head on the tensioner pulley to connect to and pull the pulley away from the belt to enable removing the belt from the closest pulley you can with your free hand.

This can be insane and very time consuming. There were 3 types of engines made for this year. You need to know which one. All will take a 15mm offset box wrench. All types will need to be turn clockwise?

Good luck and hope this helps.

Replacing drive belts

If you decide to do this yourself you will need a set of open end wrenches. Be sure to draw a diagram showing exactly how the drive belts are situated around the pulleys now so you don't make a mistake. Then loosen the belt tensioner and remove the old belts.

OR go to an auto zone store and the sales person will assist you with this for no charge as long as you buy the belts there.
