SOURCE: dewalt compressor not filling with air drained tank closed valve

Some dewalt air compressors with single cylinder are known to develop trouble with reed valves and /or failed gaskets in head. Parts lists and parts are available at WWW.toolpartsdirect.com Simple test is to remove air filter and check for suction at intake. Bad reeds will tend to blow air out intake as pressure increases. Failed gaskets in head will cause very high temp at discharge hose. Parts are not too expensive. Enjoy

SOURCE: dewalt compressor not filling with air

I have a Dewalt 2hp 4 gallon air compressor and it will not pressurize. When I turn it off I can hear and feel air coming out of a little needle valve where the line from the compressor goes into the tank. The pin is very small and down inside the hole - can barely see the tip.

My dewalt D55146 makes loud leaf blower noise, has a burning smell and doesnt build pressure

This compressor is belt driven. When the belt fails the motor will run faster than normal and takes longer to stop turning. When belt is in place and the motor is shut off, the motor will stop almost instantly. If the belt is slipping, you will smell rubber burning (you will need to change the belt anyway). It is my opinion that the belt fails because the cut-off pressure is much to high (200psi). The belt will last longer is the pressure switch cut-out at a normal 125psi. If the discharge tube (tube from pump head to tank or in-tank check valve) or other parts are leaking, it will take much longer to fill and cause over-heating. You can keep track of the condition of the compressor internal parts by knowing how long it takes to fill the tank when new compared to how long it takes now. As parts wear, the unit will take longer to fill. Go to the dealer and time a new unit then test yours against this time period. Do not use an extension cord on this size compressor. Use more hose instead. If you are having trouble filling the tires because of low pressure in the hose, try experiment. Remove the safety valve from the compressor and install a tee fitting. One one port of the tee, reinstall the safety valve. On the second port install a quickconnect fitting. This will give you access to full tank pressure bypassing the regulator to quick fill your tractor tire. This trick is how the tire shop quickly fills a tire. Use caution and do not overfill your tire. Good luck

Compressor regulator is hard to remove.

May not need to remove the manafold. Order regulator repair kit number (N008792) and try to repair in-place. If the knob is stripped, do not repair. Remove the knob and examine parts before you order kit. For a temp repair, remove the jumper hose that feeds the manafold and plug. Remove the safety pop valve and install a tee fitting. On one port of the tee, re-install the pop valve. On the second port install quick connect fitting for full tank pressure or generic regulator then quick connect. Generic regulator is sold at Lowes and will last longer then factory part (manafold costs about $75). Good luck

Compressor not filling the tanks

You will most likely have to buy the manifold assembly from them. If you are mechanically inclined take the manifold assy. and check the check vale and the regulator. This is a common problem with there product. sorry for your pain.

Tank wont fill with air but compressor runs

Can you hear the air coming out? Or it is not pumping up at all? If the air is not coming out somewhere like the bypass or the regulator, or the drain plugs, then the reeds are shot in the head, it is an easy fix, and an easy part to get, I hope, call Dewalt's hotline and tell them what's happening, they will fix you up.

Dewalt compressor will not build up pressure

turn on and tap the top of the pin lightly also with no air in tank pull up and down on pin spray lightly with wd40 never let anyone use this pin valve to release pressure it will ruin the valve if you still have problems you can get a new universal check valve off the shelf at lowes for around $6 make sure you use thread tape when reinstalling

if you do not have any air leaks and it is a oil less compressor than it is most likely the piston seal is wore out. if it is an oil compressor that it is likely a flapper valve
