Can not turn on wifi

Radio configuration is locked in bios settings

I have the same problem with WIFI turning ON and OFF.

I discovered that the problem is with the ON/OFF switch on the right side. Bad contact? I set the switch not all the way ON (have to play with it) and then have no problem until I touch it again (usually by mistake). I think the problem is a bad, faulty or cheap micro switch.

How to on wifi

If you have a WiFi switch button(usually a button with radio logo on top), you can turn it by switching.
But, if you don't, try to find it on your keyboard (usually in function key with radio logo on it) and combine with FN key.
But, if still won't on, check your BIOS configuration.
But if still won't on, you can fix it by updating your BIOS. But I suggest you to take it to an expert to fix the problem.

Acer 4720,when switched on wifi button, the light for wifi is flash and the funcion is worked. But switched off wifi button, the light is still on.How can i switch off the light?

For Windows Based Computers

If the drivers for the wireless adapter contain a setting to toggle wireless radio, it can be located using the

following path: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Right click Wireless Network Connection Icon > Properties >

Configure > Advanced tab

Here you will find a textbox with a list of selectable properties that are populated by the device driver. Once you

select a property there will be a value field with a dropdown box containing configuration options that apply to that

specific property. The name of the wireless radio property may vary because the listed properties are dependent on

each specific device driver. It should be fairly intuitive to determine the correct property if you simply have the user

read all the listed properties to you.

Many laptop manufacturers will place a physical switch on the outside casing of the laptop, so that the user can

easily toggle wireless radio. Sometimes these switches get accidentally turned off, or intentionally turned off and the

end user forgets to switch it back. The best practice in these situations is to ask the user to look for a physical switch

on the case of the laptop, possibly with a symbol of a radio tower next to it. After turning the wireless switch on, the

user will probably need to refresh their network list.

Laptops built by certain manufacturers may have a specific keystroke set up to toggle wireless radio.

Below are some examples of wireless radio software and hardware toggles that we have been able to

document:

Acer (General) - FN,F5

ASUS (General) -The F5R has a toggle switch to turn on and off the WIFI; it is located on the left side of the

notebook

Dell (General) - FN,F2 or FN,F8 or FN,F12
Dell d630 (D6xx?) latitude: toggle switch on the left side towards the front by the PCMCIA slots and headphone

jack

E-machine (General) - FN,F2

Fujitsu (General) - FN,F10

HP/Compaq (General Older models) - Button on upper left on keyboard deck
HP/Compaq (General Newer models) - Button on lower left below keyboard

IBM thinkpad (General) - Most have software switch or button on left hand side.
IBM thinkpad (model not further identified) with wireless switch on front edge of case.

Sony Vaio (General) - switch on front left

Toshiba (General) - FN,F5 or FN,F8 or switch
Toshiba Satelite has a physycal switch on front of case. FN+F8 shows wether wireless communications is

enabled or disabled.

Dell Latitude D510 - Turn on Radio for WiFi

This can be found in a couple of areas. Under Computer Management, make sure Wireless Zero Configuration is set to enabled. Also under Network Connections, make sure that the network adapter is showing as enabled, and is not disabled. This can be done by right clicking on the network connection and clicking enable.

This issue sounds like you may need to explain to her that the network cabling needs to be changed around so that the router recognizes the cable modem, and than she should be set.

Sincerely,

Lenovo thinkpad R51e ,when i power on the laptop it show error271

This error message is generated when the BIOS Date and Time is incorrect. Go into the BIOS configuration to change the Date and Time. When you reboot and still get the same error message then the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaced and the Date and Time setting needs to be change to the current Date and Time after replacing the battery.
If you cannot get into the BIOS configuration (press F1 on bootup) or you get a lock icon in the top LH corner of the screen, this is a Power on Password symbol, enter the passsword to bootup the laptop and then press F1 to get into the BIOS configuration.

How do I turn the radio on the wireless card

When your computer is switched on, the WiFi radio is almost always transmitting or receiving signals. In certain situations, as in an airplane, signals from the radio may cause interference. Use the following methods if you need to disable the radio and use your notebook without emitting radio signals.
Use the Optional Computer Radio On or Off Switch

If your computer has an external switch installed, use it to switch the WiFi radio on or off. See the computer manufacturer for more information about this switch. If you have Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, the current state of the radio displays in the Intel PROSet/Wireless main window and on the Taskbar.

Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off

From Intel PROSet/Wireless, the WiFi radio can be switched on or off. The status icon on Intel PROSet/Wireless displays the current state of the radio.

To start Intel® PROSet/Wireless, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Start > Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
  • Right-click the Taskbar icon prosettaskbaricon1.jpg located in the lower right corner of your Windows* Desktop to open the Taskbar menu. Click Configure WiFi.

Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off from the Taskbar Icon

To switch the WiFi radio on or off, click the Taskbar icon image1_ipswtaskbaricon.jpg and select WiFi On or WiFi Off.

How to use the Device Manager to Disable the WiFi Radio

The WiFi radio can be disabled (made non-functional) from the Windows* Device Manager.

Note: If you disabled the WiFi radio from Windows*, then you must use Windows to turn the radio on. You cannot use a hardware switch or Intel PROSet/Wireless to enable the radio again.

Windows* XP

Why do you have your SATA configuration set to IDE compatible if you're using an SATA drive? You only need to do that if you have an IDE drive in the system in most case. Try setting your BIOS to failsafe mode and see what happens.
