Question about Dell Computers & Internet

Spontaneous starting Floppy Dive

Every few seconds my floppy drive A makes a clicking sound as if it is activating and the green light comes on (there is no disk in it).

For now I have disabled it since I never use it - could this be indicative of some other problem or just a bad drive?

Just change your (BIOS setup), from floppy 3.5 to 5.25 1.2MB.
Cold boot your computer and tap key F12, once every second until you see a startup selection, choice BIOS Setup. You can find it from there.

Dear Sir I have a motherboard M925G V9.1 and the floppy disc and the green light that indicate activity remain on all time and I thing may be some configuration trouble Best Regards Ricardo Gatti

First go into BIOS Setup by tapping the DEL key as you power on your PC. (On some computers it's the F1, F2 or F10 key) On the first screen (usually titled System Information) be sure that your floppy dive is listed as Drive A: 1.44 MB 3.5" drive. It, probably is, so just exit out of bios setup and power off your computer. Next check and make sure that the 36 pin ribbon cable to your floppy drive is conected properly. The red mark on the side of the cable MUST be aligned with pin 1 on both the motherboard and drive end of the cable. The motherboard connector is usually labelled as to which end is pin 1, - if the drive connector is not labelled, look to se if the plastic guide on the top-center of the connector is lined up with the plastic guide on the drive. (If the cable is reversed, it wont hurt anyhing, the drive simply wont't work. If this doesn;t work, ty installing the drive in another PC to see whether or not the drive is bad.

Hi

Remove the battery, and clean the compartment of any old corrosion on the contacts. Leave the batteries out for a few hours. Allow all static electricity to drain. While it's off and UNPLUGGED work the power switch a few times to bet all the charge in the capacitors of the power supply. Press some buttons.... let it rest a few hours. Next return the batteries and start the machine. Your problem appears to be corrupted boot up of the Operating and Setup chips after a partial discharge and rapid reboot.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

I have installed a new floppy hard drive but my pc does not recognise it. how do i activate it? and why is the green light always on even without a floppy inside it?

Get into your bios and enable the "A" drive in the bios if you haven't already. It has to show up in the bios for it to show up in the device manager in windows. Start at the bios and work up to the device manager and reinstall floppy drivers if needed.

Hi, the floppy drive runs continually (it's very noisy!), and ever few minutes the green light comes on. Should I just disable the floppy drive? Thanks

I assume it is a 3.5 floppy , it will need to be replaced. you can attempt to disable but some motherboards require it to pass the bios screens.

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?
