I have really enjoyed this TV. No problems since purchased in May of 2003.
Just recently, the remote control will not turn the set on. I have to manually press the power button on the set, then the remote works fine for all functions. The "CH" above the channel select buttons on the TV is now illuminated when the unit is off where it was not before. The light goes out when the TV is on. When trying to turn TV on using remote, red light on TV flashes fast. The TV light on remote does this also.

Re: Remote won't turn set on anymore!
I had a similar problem with another type of TV set. All functions work well except power.
The solution was to replace the batteries, perhaps they are running low. It will also reset the remote which might help as well.
Hope this will work for you too.

Many electrical stores sell generic remote control units that will work on many different TV sets. They have all the basics covered for a TV.
I recently purchased one for a friend when her remote failed to turn the TV on and off.
I understand the problem you have is the remote not controlling the TV?
If so, set the remote to TV and hit a button. it should ask you Manufacture and give a list of codes. If this does not work, go to Directv.com and look up how ton program remote. Directions should be there. Or just google the question.
If set turns on with the power button on set the remote is : not set to TV, not programmed for the set, has bad batteries or is bad.
If it even works one function it may need to be reprogrammed or taken apart to see if works---you can test the remote by pointing it at a digital camera with a LCD screen and pressing buttons to see if it makes the screen flash on the camera.
