Question about Magellan RoadMate 300 GPS Receiver

Device can not "locate" correctly

I might use my Magellan to navigate me to maybe Cincinnati, OH. The next time I use it, I might be in Dayton. However, when I hit "locate" or put in the adress of where I want to go, the Magellan thinks I'm still in Cincinnati and gives me directions starting from my last location. When I turn it off and then back on later, it is unable to correct itself and find my new location. How can I fix this?

Re: Device can not "locate" correctly

Power it off. unplug the antenna and plug it back in. Make sure it is snugly inserted. Mine does that every now and then. It works everytime i do this. Somehow the contacts fail over use.

AMagellan Global Positioning System (GPS) is a car device that determines thebest route from your current location to a destination that you enter. It thenguides you to that destination through voice and visual instructions. Thoughthese installation procedures can apply to all Magellan in general, they arespecific to the Magellan ONE mode
1 Choose an area by the driver's side windshield, belowyour line of sight, to install the Magellan mount. Make sure your view is notblocked when the GPS is installed.
2 Clean the area with glass cleaner and wait for it todry completely.
3 Remove the protective film from the mount's suctioncup. Moisten the bottom of the cup with a little water so it sticks securely tothe glass.
4 Press the suction cup against the windshield glass. If your model has an Easy Port dial, rotate itclockwise until it locks.
5 Plug the power charging cord into your Magellan andthe power outlet or cigarette lighter outlet of your car.Setup
1 Hold down the device switch for up to 20 secondsuntil a welcome screen appears. If the device does not turn on (the LED lightis not green), it may require recharging. Drive your car for a few minuteswhile your Magellan is attached to the power outlet. Then try turning it on again.
2 Answer the setup questions by tapping the screen. Youcan change your preferences any time after setup by tapping the "ChangePreferences" icon of the "Main" menu.
3 Your device needs to determine its current location, which can initially take up to 5 minutes. Drive your car to an open area withouttall buildings or trees. Put your Magellan on the dashboard console so it has aclear line of sight to the sky. When it determines your position, the deviceshows the driving view.
4 You can now enter a destination by tapping the screenand showing the Main menu. Tap the "Navigate To" button and enter anaddress.
5 Slide the Magellan onto the mount until it clicks.Twist the device slightly until you can clearly see the screen. Begin drivingand follow the GPS directions.

Salesman said when i registered Roadmate 1412 (refurb) I would be given chance to download latest maps for free. Didn't happen. What do i do, or what did i not do correctly?

Belived a salesman!

Therre are no free maps, other than a demo which isn't usfeull for real navigation. You should have received maps preloaded on a new device but not necessrily on a second hand refurbished device. You could put your case to magellan, but i doubt they would be sympatheic

Change the time on the magellan roadmate 1212?

I was in same situation with a magellan roadmate 1212. From what I can tell, the "daylight savings" is not what many of us may be accustomed to... that is, that it means that the location you are at follows daylight savings as happens with Windows or many other devices.

I bet those in Arizona never had a problem becuase they don't follow time zone... let me explain....

The daylight savings seems to state "are we currently under daylight savings time?" if we say yes (as you would normally state in your Windows computer setting (that would determine when daylight starts and stops and adjust pc time accordingly), the magellan 1212 instead will "ADD" one hour to the time stated by the Satellites regardless on whether it is summer ... or not.

So, if you happen to live in a time zone that follows "daylight savings" and you currently are under "daylight savings" time, then set it so in the "time zone".

So, there are two things you have to do:

/menu/user options/system settings/time zone/

1)Set your time zone
2)If currently under Set/unset the daylight savings set button to yes and manually move to no when not on DLS.

The explanation I found in MagellanGPS website is below, but never mentions what is the meaning (I should say effect) of the "daylight savings" button checkmark.

Magellan GPS receivers are not able to set the Time manually. In order to have the correct time set on your Magellan GPS receiver, you must set the proper time zone you are located in (ie Pacific, Central or Eastern). Once the time zone is set the exact hour and minute will display as information is received from the satellites. The following information will assist you on setting the time zone on your Magellan GPS. For Outdoor Triton series 200, 300, 400, 500, 1500 and 2000
  1. From the map screen press Menu and select View
  2. Select profiles and press Enter
  3. Select hiking and press Enter
  4. Press the Page/Go To key once and scroll down to select time zone
  5. Press Enter to select your time zone and Enter again to confirm.
  6. Press ESC repeatedly until you return to the map screen.
Note: Make sure Daylight Savings is adjusted accordingly. For Vehicle Navigation series Maestro and RoadMate 1200-1430
  1. From the map screen select Menu
  2. Select User Options
  3. Select System Settings
  4. Select Time Zone
Note: Make sure Daylight Savings is adjusted accordingly
