Question about Compaq Presario R3000 Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, Simple question here. I have the Presario R3000 and there is a CD reader that pops out at the front left side of the computer and then there is some strange frame that pops out when I push a release just under the slot that handles the memory cards on the rear left side of the computer. Does anyone know what that 'frame' is for? I've owned the thing since 2004 and am just now noticing this thing!

Is it just a plastic frame that come out the side with the laptop logo on it?

If it is, thats just a spacer. That slot is meant for an expansion card like network adapter. Like those ones people get for verizon so they can have wireless wherever they go and get a good signal. It could also be used for a fir wire connection expanion card or for a memory card if you can find one that fits. It is bassically a mini PCI slot for a laptop,

You can throuw it out or just leave it in there, doesnt matter , its just a plastic spacer. Dell put them in every one of there laptops too. To put it back in, just push in the spring loaded stick thing that pops out, then insert the platic card back in.

I have a presario R3000 notebook. just like to ask if the fan for ventilation underneath is working in a certain temperature. or it will automatimatically running when i plug in.. can some one help me....

There are several models of this notebook depending on the processor. Some only have one fan, otehrshave two. When operating the fan should start running. I have the higher spec R3000 and my fans start soon after the machine is turned on and sometimes throttle down if I have no activity. Upon starting to use it, they soon start again. Considerable hot air will come out the right back and side.

DO NOT block the air intake(s) on the bottom of the unit !!! You can burn up the processor.

I have a compaq presario laptop. I am told I can turn on the wireless capability by using a switch or a function key combination. I have no switch; please whaty function key combination should I use?

A presario that I have has a button on the right side front that is recessed and round. You did not list the model you have and there are MANY models. Mine is an R3000 series.

The button is similar to those on the side for the audio control.

Burning DVD

Impossible, since your device _reads_ CDs/DVDs, but does not _write_ either CD nor DVD.

Do you have a USB memory-stick (holding 4Gbytes) ?
If so, copy the files to the memory-stick,
and take the memory-stick to your friend's computer,
presuming that his/her computer has a DVD-writer.
That DVD can be _read_ on your computer.

Hi i have a compaq presario r3000 and the battey died and how it say enter power on password and i dont know it and compaq has a back up password os please help thanks

If you can get to a computer with a cd burner, download and burn http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/. start your computer with the cd in the drive. This will pull the password that is for the user name on that computer. THIS IS ONLY FOR RECOVERING YOUR OWN PASSWORD. Please do not use this software for any purpose but your own.

Compaq Presario R3000 Sound card follow-up question

The sound board is connected to the mainboard by a connector and contra-connector, both soldered to their boards.. If you want to do it right, you will have to remove several screws from that bottom corner and left side, under the battery too, so that you can lift up the mainboard's corner (gently!) a bit, and put in back in place firmly. It is located just above the top left side of the battery compartment, when looking at the bottom with the front toward you. A more durable option is to take the bugger apart, and put washers max. 1mm thick under the soundboard to get a better snap-in on those connectors.

Presario r3000 too slow

I have a R3000 and after many years of usage many things happen and add to your hard drive. It can be a number of things from not enough hard drive space for your cache file to bad installed drivers.
I would suggest a full format and install using the backup disk that Compaq sent with the system. You should have the WinXP code on the bottom of the computer. This way you get a 100% clean system. You will have to reinstall any additional software such as MS Office or your virus scanner.
Hope this helps

No wireless connection with laptop Presario R3000 (anymore!)

If your volume buttons don't work either this should help. Place your laptop on a table and press down on the lower right of the computer(under the arrows near the microphone and headphone symbol) or clamp down on the battery compartment (center). The blue light on the corner should illuminate, if it's off press the network button while putting pressure(the indented one on the right front edge) you shoud hear a double ping sound. I put a thick felt pad between the battery and the computer andnow everthing works. I know it sounds really STUPID but it works.

GOOD LUCK

Richard.

Wireless connection

Hi, what you will need is a PCMCIA wireless card or usb wireless stick, these can purchased pretty cheaply these days from the likes of ebay or your local computer shop should be able to sort you out. PCMCIA would be the one I would choose as these just slot into an empty bay and once installed, can be left there. Hope this helps, if not give me a shout and I'll see what else I can do. Si :)
