Hook up the cable through your modem ditch the router. Did the cable company try to connect to the internet when they did the install? You may have to call your cable company and ask if your modem is compatable with your router. You also might want to go to the router's website and update the drivers

Go to device manager>network adapters right click on your router and click disable. Remove all the drivers from your computer for this router.

How Do I Hook up lines

First find your internet modem cable from your high speed internet box. Unplug it from your previous router or computer. This cable should run from your internet box to your router plugging it into the slot labeled internet. Then plug in the power cord to the router and let it power up.
Next you need to go to start then control panel and select the network and sharing center. Select Change adapter settings and then right click on the wireless network connection and then left click on enable. It should find several networks and your should be LinkSys. Select this and then connect.
You should now be able to access the internet after you restart your computer.

How to hook up a wireless router.

Open the wireless router box and examine the contents. You should have the router, a setup CD-ROM, a network cable and a power adapter. If any of these are missing call the company on the box.Put the setup CD in thecomputer. A screen will come up and ask you if you want to start the setup. All this CD is doing is taking you step by step through the hook-up process. Click Start setup.Choose which language you want to continue in from a drop down menu and click next.Go over the user license agreement and check the box that says, "I accept this agreement." When you are ready click next.Allow the program time to check your internet connection. When it is done it will say, "Check successful." Click next and you will be ready to begin hooking up your new wireless router.Remove the internet cable from your computer. It will be the only one that goes in to a phone jack. Then plug it in to the wireless router in to the yellow spot. Each spot is colored for your convenience, but it should also be the only spot that fits the plug so you can't get it wrong even if you try. When you have done that click next.Get the network cable you found in your box. The cable should be blue. Plug one end of the cable in to the blue spot of your wireless router and the other end in to your computer. It will only fit in one spot so don't worry. Click next when you are done this part.Plug the power adapter into the wireless router. It goes right next to the blue wire, and will only fit in that one spot. The other end should be plugged in to an outlet or power strip. Click next and wait for the system to check if the router is hooked-up properly. If it is hooked-up properly it will say, "Configuration Complete." Click next.Click next to close the setup wizard and begin using the new wireless router. This process should have only taken you a total of five minutes. If you have any problems contact the company listed in your instruction booklet.

Trying to hook up to a modem, but the modem does not have an ethernet jack for the yellow cable.

If you're connecting to a dial-up modem (56K), then you need a filter (this is like an adapter that takes an Ethernet plug in one end and a regular phone line in the other end). You may be able to find a filter at Radio Shack, but I know most phone companies will sell you one.

If you're hooking up to a high-speed modem like cable or fiber optic, then keep looking - it's industry standard to have at least one Ethernet jack, and it would be very strange if your high-speed modem didn't have one.

Hi, you can hook the router to your computer using a standard Ethernet cable (the one with connectors that look similar to phone jack connectors, but a little wider). You should have an Ethernet port on the back of your computer, and you can connect the cable from there to the Ethernet LAN port on the router.

How do you hook up the wireless router

First configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then configure wan settings and lan settings enable wireless if you want to use wifi .Then save settings and restart router. Then connect internet cable from service provider to your router's WAN port.If you want wired internet then connect lan cable from computer to router's lan port. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like it might be that your router has gone bad. I would try hooking your computer to another router to see if it's your router or not. Or perhaps, hook another computer to your router and see if you still have the same problem with that computer. Either way, it might indicate that your router is malfunctioning in some way. Also, you might consider hooking up without the "wireless" router (directly to a modem via an ethernet or USB cable). Believe me, I know how such things can be very annoying sometimes, as I've had a few problems of my own. Hope you discover what the problem actually is and get it all straightened out real soon.

D-link dir 615 ; can't get other desktop to read wireless network

Please understand as I get very basic to start but things very obvious to you I cannot see.

Generally when including a router in a home network starting from the cable (tv) or the phone socket (dsl) in the wall with a phone wire plugged in. The next box is generally provided by your internet service provider and is a modem/something that connects to the phone line or cable. Then sometimes when only one computer exists computers are directly connected to the modem with an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone wire with oversize connectors) or a USB cable (small flat retangular ends).

When you want to add a router for multiple computers. The computer gets disconnected. If a USB cable was used it is often replaced with an ethernet cable and that cable connects to the WAN port (probably separate from a block of 4 lan ports) of the router you bought (tell me if you have two routers -- that is a different problem). If your service comes from a cable (tv) company your router may already be properly configured. If however you have DSL service from the phone company the chances your router is correctly configured are less. To finish with the cabling story -- your computer then hooks to one of probably 4 LAN ports all in a block. Now if you are lucky power on all devices and boot up your computer and see if you have internet access. If you do great if not please provide me the name of your internet service provider or a link to their help/support website and I will see what I can do to assist in completing the router setup. Until your wired computer gets access to the internet your girls wireless connections will not work either. Once we get the wired connection working we will address the wireless connections.
If necessary unplug the router and plug the computer back into the original cable until we get the router working.

Okay, set it up with the cable company so that the computer is running off of the new modem ONLY! Now, READ the book for this one, you need to go into the router using the 192.168.xx.x address, which comes from the book. You need to emulate the MAC address of the computer you set up to use the service first. Dlink routers are cheap, but if they were easier to use they would cost more. I do high speed for a cable company.... later..
