Red Sparkles on Samsung R5052

Hi there, I saw a post where you suggested you know how to fix this issue. It happens on any signal input, from HDMI 1080i, to component in on my XBOX 360.
The picture looks good mostly, especially bright areas, but and large dark areas have red pixels constantly firing to give a sparkle effect.

I am reasonably technically competent, but the amount of screws to remove the back was a little daunting, not sure if I should remove ALL of them and assume the back will come off correctly. After taking one or two laptops apart for upgrades, I know that things can go badly quickly.

Model - R5052
Type # - SR5OP5
Model Code - HPR5052X / xaa

I have the TV plugged into a UPS in the surge protected side, to hopefully regulate against voltage fluctuations!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

I came across this LG 42PX5D 42 in. HDTV Plasma Television question on and thought you might be interested in reading it.

My set is around 16 months old & has recently started doing this. it is linked to a Sky HD box.
I have several inputs including P.C using-(RGB)SKY -(HDMI), Home Cinema -(AV4) and DVD -(gold plate scart (AV2).
The problem is active on all connections/inputs despite checking the connections. Occasionally (very rarely) it disappears for a programme or 2.
At first didn't know if it was my sky signal strength but obviously, cant be that, if its active on all inputs. going to try the idea on fix to see if it works.

if anyone knows how to fix this, would be greatful Regards,

I had the same problem, LG came out and it turned out to be the board that filters out the interference around the screen. I pretty sure that was it, took them 10 mins to fix by replacing a few of the boards inside the screen. Sorry I can't be more specific but its not an unfixable problem, so nothing to worry about.

Try to reduce the Vs voltage about 5-10V below its spec value. Vs is from the Power Supply board. The spec value of Vs was printed on the back of PDP panel. (You need to open the back cover)

No picture on Samsung HP-R5052

Just a couple of things to try:
You say you tried another cable box and a roku. Are you using the same cables? Are you using hdmi, component or coax cables? Could be a bad wire. True high def tv 1080 requires an hdmi cable for the best picture. The next best choice is the component cable. This is a triple cable with red, green, & blue and provides 720 resolution. The least quality is the coax wire which will only provide low def standard quality picture. Sometimes people hook up 1, 2, or all 3 of these choices not knowing what it all means. If thats the case with your tv it may just be a matter of selecting the correct input on your tv with your remote. On your samsung remote there should be a button for input. Try pushing that button and make sure it's set to hdmi or component, whichever your using. If none of this, is it possible the plasma tv itself is defective?

I have had my Samsung pn42c430 for about two months now, and there is no blue and very little yellow in the picture everything is red and green. what can i do to fix this?

Hi, if the problem is happening through the inputs of the TV like a scart or HDMI lead try another cable and only use 1 input socket at a time to eliminate it being a cable problem, if its the same on DTV or analouge as it is the inputs then I suggest you arrange to have the TV exchanged or looked at under warranty.

Hope this helps

Makes you wonder why nobody is taking on the problem, doesn't it?
Well , to the best of my knowledge, it is because nobody really can.
To understand why you have to understand what do they sparkles come from.
They are random electricity discharges coming from capacitors or other components that act like capacitors, but mostly capacitors.
When laymen hear about capacitors they usually associate the word with bulged electrolytic capacitors, which often cause problems in electronics of all kind.
Well this time it isn't about them.
It's about all other capacitors - or other components exposing similar qualities - which are installed on the board. Most of them are small filter capacitors put in parallel to the big ones or to other passive components such as diodes and resistors.
The excessive heat developed by the sustain boards damages those capacitors. It hardens the electrostatic material they are made of and small breaks in it start occurring at voltages that shouldn't otherwise be causing issues.
The trouble is, they can be everywhere. You can't just pinpoint which ones were caught at fault and causing the sparkles.
When it gets REALLY bad eventually the whole capacitor burns and either shorts or, more commonly, just breaks.
Believe it or not I've seen a board that exploded before my very eyes and , after the explosion, started working LIKE A CHARM!
Turned out a small filter capacitor had blown. It as not essential for the board's functionality and after being problematic for so long and causing image deffects it had eventually shorted completely and literally exploded.
Luckily, the short it had created was too short in time and apparently in a circuit that could take the load for a short while without getting damaged.
So after it blew everything worked just great!
it's a real story from my repair experience.
Hope this helps all consumers, DIY enthusiasts and competitors alike :-)

Good luck!
