Question about Stoves Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Would anybody know where the fuses are on old stoves? I have an old stove, which I am renting with my apartment. There is no brand name on it but since it is olive-green, it must go back to the 70s, if not the 60s. I believe that a fuse blew up because both elements on the right side stopped working at the same time (it sounded like a gunfire.). There is no heat and no light on either one. I know that on modern stoves, the fuses are on top and easily accessible but on this one, I cannot find them. I opened the top (which is screwed) and saw nothing. I would appreciate your help.

Hello Lucie,
If the range or oven is receiving power but doesn't work, the unit may have its own fuse or circuit breaker assembly. This assembly is usually located under the cooktop of the range. In some units, lift the top of the range to gain access to the fuse assembly; or lift the elements, remove the drip pans, and look on the sides of the cabinets. Inside the oven, look to the back to spot the fuse assembly. I would highly recommend that you remove or disable power to the stove prior to making any component changes...
If the unit has this additional fuse or breaker system, components such as the oven light, the range heating elements, the timer, and a self-cleaning feature may be separately fused. If these components or features fail to work, don't overlook the possibility that the fuses have blown. To replace a blown fuse, unscrew the old fuse and install a new one of the same type and electrical rating. If the unit has circuit breakers, push the breaker or reset button, which is usually located on the control panel.
I would think that your landlord ( since you are renting) would be responsible for the maintence and/or replacement of your stove,,,
Good Luck..
Regards,
Rick

Why surface control knobs become hot when oven is on

If its an older model gas stove, then its normal. I have an older gas stove and the knobs get a little hot when the oven is on. Nothing that prevents me from using it, but enough to notice they are warm.

If its a newer stove, you should contact the manufacturer. Without knowing more info, I can only give a general answer.

If you're renting in an apartment then talk to the management or maintenance. If you're leasing the stove, call the company its being leased from.

Where are my electric stove's fuses located (if that is indeed the problem)?

The electronics were probably destroyed by the lightning strike.
Heating elements can withstand voltage surges but not the more sensitive electronics.
The oven is controlled by the timer but none of the top burners are. Using the Brand name and Model number you should be able to buy parts. The controls may all on a single board.

Hi! My old school Admiral oven/stove top is having issues. I rent, so I don't want to bother my landlord until I have to - or know what to tell him. Basically, it won't heat anything substantially. The...

You need to contact the landlord and I will tell you why: The stove should not have issues above and below simultaneously. I comment you for not wanting to bother the landlord but I feel like you have an electrical problem. The oven not there and the top not there? You have a bad circuit breaker on that puppy. Takes a 50 amp 2 pole 240 volt breaker for an electric stove and only qualified schocktricians should fool with them. My opinion.

I have the same problem with ours! Our 2 small burners don't work at all and the 2 larger ones only work bright red hot. I called Sears and they said there is no recall on my particular model, but there are tons of recalls on other models. The problem is with the venting from the oven doing damage to the wiring (shorting them out maybe?). We're trying to find someone who knows anything about this and if we can get it fixed as our stove is only 3 years old.

Gas stove makes clicking noise when turning on

When a gas stove is clicking, it means it is trying to ignite the burner. If the knob is held in the ignite position for more then 3 seconds and the burner does not ignite, it means that (1) the gas is shut off to the stove, (2) she does not have gas service set-up yet at the apartment, or (3) the gas nozzles feeding the burner are dirty and clogged.

Most of the time, when you move to a new apartment, you need to call the gas company and have the gas turned on, unless it is included in your rent. Either way, when a house or apartment is unoccupied, the gas is turned off for safety reasons. I would contact the landlord to be sure.
