My PIXMA MP970 printer abruptly lost power. is it due to fuse problem and where is the fuse box?

Dear
The printer has the step down SMPS which supply the low voltage (generally 24V DC to the other component. It contains high voltage risk also the high frequency. Sound knowledge is required while repairing the SMPS also appropriate precaution. If somebody is present having electrical knowledge during repair is better.

First disconnect the electricity supply cable from the printer
open the smps, check visually for any physical abnormality of individual component, then check the fuse for open,if its open check the MOV,mosfet,capacitor,bridge/zener diodes for short if found replace with same value,
take a series lamp of 15W incandescent bulb, connect the smps, check the voltage at secondary output. utmost care should be taken with attention of co-worker while checking live circuit.
If there is no voltage, check primary component at area of PWM IC /replace PWM ic (smd).

Again FATAL ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND FIRE MAY HAPPEN IF CARE NOT TAKEN.

Thanks.

It will not trurn on does the ac adapter need replacement it is over 10 yrs old

Look at adapter, see what output is supposed to be- maybe 12 volts DC? Find a multimeter that will measure DC voltage, and see if the output plug has that across the connector. If you have an ordinary power cord without an adapter, it will have 120 volts AC like any other cord, which you can also measure on AC scale, but be careful as you can get a dangerous shock, just like you can from an ordinary household outlet.
Note: AC voltage may vary by country.

The power went out and now my canon mp530 all in one printer won't turn on...the power supply seems fine...so what could be wrong?

You said the power supply `seems fine', have you removed and tested it? there should be dc voltage present. I cant remember the voltages, I think +24VDC, but it doesn't matter, either you have it or you don't.
If the power supply is good, then the problem is most likely the logic board, and is not worth repairing.

Error 5100

5100 is a Carriage Home Position Error.
try cleaning the plastic strip that runs the length of the carriage, it may be contaminated.
Use alcohol and a swab.

see if that helps
