Re: I thinking of buying one of these machines
The Minolta EP-5000 is a analog copier. That means that it can not be connected to a computer to print to, it is just a 50 a minute copier.. It is to old to be connected, it came out around 1996 or so..... It is naot a bad copier, it is one of there old work horse... It is a up-dated version of the EP-3050 & 4050.

There is device slot where the Key Counter goes who ever owned the machine before you had it set up like at Kinko's where you get a key from the store make your copies come go back to the employee and they determine the number of copies you made. Mite want to get the key previous owner.
When you say smudges, do you mean toner spot or blobs of toner on you pages? If you get random blobs of toner... You need to take out the drum unit & remove the primary charge unit & remove the drum & vac. out a small little grove that seats right below the developer mag roller... It is most likely filled with toner and is dropping on to you paper as copies are being made. Good Luck
Im pretty sure this is an analog machine. One way to test this for sure is to make multiple copies of one original. If the light scans the paper each time, then it is a analog machine and can't be hooked up to a computer. Digital machines generally scan the document only once then print many.
