Question about Sta Rite Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm High Effiency - Propane Heater - 333,000 BTU

1 Answer

AGS code My pool heater ignites for 1 second and quits or doesn't ignite at all. I am reading an AGS code so I replaced the gas shutoff switch, and the high limit switch with no resolve. I checked the temperature governor, the bypass valve and they too are clean. I checked the flow switch, and it reads good for proper water flow. My filters are clean and my air flow switch is working properly, but I am still getting an AGS trouble. What am I overlooking? Could it be the logic module? Thanks for any suggestions you may have. AGS switch wiring may be bad. Jumper the switch at the molex connector on the board using a paper clip, with the plug still plugged on. Restore power.

I have a Master Temp 250 pool heater that shows an AGS error on the back of the board. The heater runs for about 20 seconds then shuts off, any ideas?

AGS = Auto Gas Shutoff...
What is happening is the heater is monitoring (or sorta, by reasons difficult to explain here) Water Flow and Water Temperature. In this case, the AGS is triggered by a low water flow, or high Incoming Water Temp.
High internal water temp = triggered AGS.
If you have and can confirm, PROPER water flow, water temp coming into heater is Lower than 104°, then it is possible you have a faulty AGS.
But in most cases, it's only doing its job. Locate the reason for the fault, or why the AGS Switch turned the heater off.

I am getting an error code ags

AGS - Auto Gas Shutoff = Because of a problem sensed, the gas valve is closing, stopping gas supply and hence heater shutoff.
Improper water flow through heater! Check filter, pump, water supply lines, anything that will reduce water flow into heater.
A faulty Pressure Switch may cause this problem as well.
or...
In coming water to heater is over 104°
If all is good with the above, replace the AGS Switch.

Heater will fire, will heat for one hour then shutdown. will get digital read out AGS. can turn heater off, let set for a while turn heater on will heat up for an hour and it will shutdown again.

you didn't indicate exact model but here is what the AGS is for.
Not sure if yours has a combustion blower or not, if so check that it's flow is not obstructed. If it doesn't make sure there are no debries in the flue area. Here is the troubleshooting from their manual. You can download a manual from www.jandy.com
