Installing XP on HP m8120n

I wan to get rid of Vista on this machine. I get blue screen while installing XP. It has SATA hard disk. XP does not come with SATA Driver. I used nLite to add SATA Driver on XP Bootable disk. Still blue screen. probably SATA driver is not good or not recongnized. Thinking to use floppy disk and F6 to install driver from Floppy. But before I buy the Floppy drive I want to find out if there is anything else I can try.

The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSOD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is an error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down, to prevent damage.
Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems can be caused by poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens.
Bluescreens can also be caused by physical faults such as faulty memory, power supply issues, overheating of components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; earlier, OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

I hope it helps!!!

Can't install windows on FSB 800 motherboard its showing no hard disk installed in your computer but showing in the bios kindly help

If you are installing XP on a SATA hard drive then -

The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hi I am having some trouble in reformatting my laptop. Their are two main issues with it. Its a HP Pavillion DV4-1540US..The first issue is that there is lot of screen flickering and green and pink colors...

The first issue sounds like a bad LCD. I can help you with the second issue. You didn't mention which Windows you are installing but because of the sata controller issue I will assume you are converting from Vista to XP. Here is how you do it: You will need to slipstream the sata drivers onto the XP installation disk. You will need to download these two programs: nLite, and CDburnerXP.

nLite is a program to slipstream the sata drivers to the XP install disc. CDburnerXP is a program you can use to copy entire disks and create and burn ISO images. Next you need to download the sata drivers for your laptop. Both ICH9 for Intel, and sata for AMD are HERE. Download the correct version for your laptop and save this link as it also has all the XP drivers for a DV4.

Put your XP installation disk in your computer and copy the disc to a folder using CDburner. Now start nLite and point it to that folder to reference it to an XP installation. When you get to the modify screen select add drivers, select entire folder and browse to the sata drivers you downloaded. Continue and tell it to create an ISO image. After that is complete you can go to the ISO you just created and double click it to burn a fresh installation disk using CDburner. Now you have an installation disk that will install XP. After XP is installed go back to the link I gave you to download all the XP drivers for your laptop.

Sata HDD NOT DETECTING IN XP SETUP

If you're using a scsi card and connecting the hard drive to the card you need to have the scsi set-up floppy disk. When the blue screen starts during windows installation watch the bottom of the screen. It will tell you to press F6 key then to insert the floppy disk.
If you're using a sata drive connected directly to the motherboard (not in a raid configuration) you shouldn't need anything but the windows disk. The motherboard drivers and utilities disk should have the files to create the scsi install disk.

Xp could not find sata hard disk

the driver is not included in the driver cab on the xp and server 2003 disks, you will need to download the drivers and put them on a floppy disk (usb floppy if you do not have an internal drive) then as the blue setup screen is loading press F6 to load the drivers.
