If your pixma is the printer you use then it should be your default printer. make sure it has the checkmark beside it. if you use another device then it would be the default printing device.
if you use several different ones then you can choose which to use when you print.
hope this helps you.

Hi Ken,

When you try to print, on the print screen (as shown below) does it say Microsoft XPS document writer?

Fig 1 - Print window

shreysri_13.png
If it says microsoft XPS document writer, then click on the down arrow on the same line, from the drop down select Dell 1130 printer.

If your printer is not listed there OR if the printer is already selected then you need to use the printer CD which came with it to install the drivers and softwares.

If you are unable to locate the printer cd you can download by clicking the link below, on the download page select your operating system and download the driver/ software.

My Brother MFC-7840W scans into TIF files as individual pages. At my former job, we scanned directly into multi-page PDFs. What am I doing wrong?

You need to install a PDF writer program first. There arequite a few freeware PDF writer programs on the Internet you can download onesuch as CutePDF.
Scan your document the click on File - Print and select the PDF writer as theprinter device. Then name and save the PDF file. http://www.cutepdf.com/

I try to print something and it takes me to a page that says save as xps file, but every time i hit save, nothing happens!

Do you have your printer properly installed in the system?

Go to control panel, printers, and see what printers you have installed. Among them there will be a "virtual" printer called "Microsoft XPS writer" - it is a special "printer" that saves your document in a special type of file. Not very useful in your case.

Do you see any other printers apart from the above mentioned? If so, then most probably the "XPS writer" is set as default printer, and you have to select the actual printer you have (I presume it will be HP Deskjet D4260, as in the topic), right-click it and choose "set as default". Then you should be able to print OK from whichever application you want to print.
Additonally, when you select File->Print from that application's menu, it will show you a window, where the chosen printer is specified; you can always open the drop-down list of printers there and select a different one (your actual printer).

If there are no other printers on the list apart from the XPS writer, it means that your printer is not installed in the system, and you have to install the driver from a CD that came with the printer. Or if you don't have the CD, go to the HP website, download and install the driver for your printer.

Good luck, and please come back with a testimonial if helped.

I have a dell printer and it has just started asking for output file before it will print. i have checked solutions already given and they are not the problem

In windows, go to control panel > printers and make sure your samsung printer is set as the default. (not the xps document writer or a pdf writer) Do this by right-clicking your printer and selecting 'use as default'.

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

In Vista make sure you are logged in as a administrator whenever you make any changes.

And if not to bring the printer online you will have to right click on the printer icon and right click on Run as administrator> and then try bringing the printer online and checdk if it works.

And you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer it is a default printer icon installed if in case you did not have a printer installed you can store them to print later.
Now that you already have a printer you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer.

Good Luck

Printer will default to "save as" screen when que to print

In administrator login the default printer is "Microsoft XPS Document Writer", make sure that the default printer is the HP Printer.
OR
You have to change in the Print dialog box, select the HP Printer instead of "Microsoft XPS Document Writer"
