Question about Compaq Presario 1275 Notebook
It can run Windows XP, but it will be slow. I have successfully installed XP on a 1275.
It is still useful for someone who is just checking their email and light internet usage.

The BIOS will not show the hard drive size above 8.5GB, but Windows XPseems to function with larger hard drives than that. (The one on whichI installed XP has a 20GB HD in it.)
Even though documented memory expansion indicates it can only use up to an 128MB module, the unit I serviced recognized and was able to support a 256MB module. (The 1275 has 32MB on the motherboard -- total of 288MB after expansion.)
Note on installing the "spare drive that has Windows XP installed on it": You will probably have to re-install XP, because that drive will have drivers set up for the previous computer on which it was installed.
