Question about Hotpoint 4.87 cu. ft. / 138 liter Upright Freezer FZA50

Open Question

Bosch freezer not freezing!

Hi I have a bosch fridge freezer. The fridge is working but the freezer part although turned up to max is not getting cold enough.

The thermostat shows just below freezing and ice has stayed frozen but food will not freeze.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Wendy

put a thermometer inside the freezer for a few hours to see if the thermostat is correct.

try it on max setting. lint clogging up stuff in the back? needs defrosting? low on refrigerant (freon)? call repairman for that last one

If this is a frost free unit as I received it posted you may have a problem in that it is not frost free. The cooling coil may be frozen over stopping air circulation. There would be a defrost timer located somewhere in back. Located the clutch head screw and turn it clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. That should put the system into the defrost mode. Wait about 30 minutes in which time the system should return to the cooling mode (usually 18-22 minutes). If it does not restart the compressor after that time turn the clutch head screw clockwise again and it should restart. If you had to turn the screw the second time it would indicate a bad defrost timer. In this case replace the timer.

Bosch fridge freezer stops working after approx 8 hours. Starts OK and freezes OK but next day it's warming up. Turn it off and back on again and it starts all over again and the problem reoccurs..

Found a solution at

Short out the dark blue and the dark brown wires that lead into the temp control dial. Everything now works. This bipasses a dodgy thermister or something. Of course this might not solve all similar problems but it does seem a common fault.

My Bosch frostfree fridge freezer keeps icing up!

My Bosch Frost Free Fridge Freezer did the same thing - Ice forming in the bottom of the freezer area after a few days.

It was caused by a blocked drain pipe - When the freezer does the de-frosting cycle, the melted ice drips into a tray and tehn runs into a dish on top of teh compressor, through a pipe.

If this pipe gets blocked, the de frosted ice overflows from the tray and overflows into the bottom of the freezer and then re-freezes !

To fix, pull the freezer away form the wall, locate the pipe that runs to the dish on top of the compressor and blow through it - This should clear it. Alternatively, from inside the freezer compartment, pull off the cover at the back, but the clips holding it on will probably break off, as mine did ! You can sort of push the cover back on and re-fit the food draws.
