This is called the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). This indicates a general hardware failure normally due to overheating. When these PS3's were produced Sony decided to use lead free solder. The problem with lead free solder is that it is not as flexible as leaded solder but it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. When the console gets hot and cools down hairline cracks appear within these solder joints and a good electrical contact cannot be made. This then causes the console to fail. It could be on a number of different components including the CPU, GPU or memory. There is a temporary cure that may or may not work but ultimately the console will need to be repaired professionally or replaced. If it is out of warranty Sony will not replace it but will offer a refurbished unit for around £130. If you look on Youtube for Yellow light of death fix there is a way that you can re-heat the solder joints using a heat gun but if you are not confident taking apart electrical items then this really may not be something you want to try.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

I wnt away from home for a few weeks and when i came back i wanted to play my ps3 but when i turned it on all i got was a black screen so i tried reseting my ps3 sevral times and and still nothing happened...

Have you tried resetting the video ouput?

Try these steps :

Step 1. Turn the PS3 onto standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it, then beep again 5 seconds later.
Step 3. Release the power button when you hear the second beep.
Step 4. Wait to see if your PS3 starts up

What this does is reset the video resolution back to standard definition.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Well, is this your first time turning on your ps3 to your tv, if so then what you have to do is turn off the switch in the back of the ps3 and then hold your finger on the power button, then turn on the switch at the back of the ps3, and wait for 2 clicks then it should set the ps3 to your tv.

Ps3 freezes in the start

When turning on Press and hold your PS3 power button for about 6 seconds. You will hear 2 more bips!
This will reset your PS3 to MFG default. Connect your Composite jacks (Yellow, red, white) from your PS3 to your TV in order to hear and see the display! This will not delete any of your data!

GoodLuck!

PS3 Yellow light

There is nothing wrong with the PS3. I read in the users manual that when the the green light on the PS3 turns yellow or flashes yellow the PS3 is too hot and you need to turn it off. It has never happened to me because I keep my PS3 in a open area.

When the PS3 gets to hot you need to let it sit and cool for a little while and then you can turn it back on and start playing again. If the PS3 cools for a while and it still doesn't work you need to call Sony.

Ps3

it's the first simptom of overheating.
Eventually it will fail complete and would not even turn on anymore (goes green-yellow-3 beeps and flashing red). at the point there is nothing you can do anymore.
Send it in for repairs or if you do not have warranty open the console and replace the thermal compound of the main processors. It may help

Re white and yellow cords

Try holding the power button on the ps3 for about 10seconds. It should beep as it normally would turning on, carry on holding the button until it restarts. This should restart the ps3 in standard mode so that it can be viewed via rca/scart connection.

No connection on ps3 to t.v.

try resetting your video settings.....see if this helps, otherwise you could have a bad video cable or PS3.
Hook up your origional cable that came with Ps3..the red, yellow, white one.

1. Turn off PS3 with switch on back
2. Turn switch back on. Red light should be on.
3. press and hold power button for approx 8 seconds till multi beeps are heard. Turn off and back on. See if you get a pic...If not your ps3 might be broken, or bad video cable.
