The title of this topic is for the MX860. It has no "RESUME" button, so the advice submitted by cene765 does not work. But there is a solution.
The MX860 has two black ink cartridges--one small (like the colored ones) and one large. So, you will run out of colored ink way before you run out of black. I found that by selecting the "Gray scale" printing option, I could still print with color cartridges being very low. Even when the printer told me that the color cartridges were empty, I could still print by clicking the "OK" button. However, this does not last. Eventually, the printer will flag the color cartridges with an alarm. When that happens, the printer stops working, freezing at the alarm until you replace the cartridge.
However, you can still print. What you need to do is press and hold the STOP button for a few moments. The alarm will be released and then you let go of the button. Printing can resume. This happened to me where the alarm was triggered by the cyan cartridge, before I could even try to print. When I used the STOP button bypass, printing started but was then flagged by the magenta cartridge. I thought for sure that pressing STOP while in the middle of starting the print cycle would abort it, but thankfully it did not--the alarm was cleared and printing resumed.
Works for the mx300 try it may work for you.
1. Disconnect the power cable. 2. Connect it while holding down the "power" button 3. With the power button still down, press twice the "Cancel/Stop" red button 4. Release the power button. 5. The printer turns into factory mode: wait for about 10 seconds, then it says "Idle". 6. Press the ">" (next to the "OK" button) once."Shipping Mode 3" 7. Press the "OK" button. 8. Press "OK" again for "Without cleaning". A test page will print.. 9. Open the cover, like you are about to change the cartridges. 10. Disconnect the power cable again. 11. Take out both cartridges. 12. Close the cover. 13. Connect the power cable once again. 14. Turn the printer on. 15. Put the cartridges back.
On the canon MX300, holding the "reset" button down for about 10 seconds will extinguish the alarm light & should normalize all functions. The ink level will still indicate "low" , just ignore it.
I have the same problem and happened after 2nd refill
the only answers I could find was that
the copper strip with the dots could be dirty and need cleaning
It could be overfilled and need ink drawn out
It could just now be a faulty catridge
I tried the first 2 with no success but intent to keep trying to clean it and draw some more ink out even though it doesnt seem too full. If it still doesnt work I am going to just discard it and get another and keep re filling it as I have a second one that I use with no problems.
Also the printer has to be reset when a new re filled cartridge is used as it will still see it as the empty one. to do this if you dont know how.
To Reset the Canon Cartridges Works 100% Power off the printer Hold the stop/reset button then press and hold power (for 5 secs) Hold Power and release the stop/reset button Press the stop/reset button twice Relase power button Wait until the power button lights a steady/still green, press the stop/reset button three times with a 3 sec space between each press. On the 3rd press the inicator should be orange. Press the power button to set data To set data remove cartridges then replace. leave for 20 or 30 secs Press the power button again to shut down Then press power button to power up. The printer will feed one piece of paper through then set language and counrty. Then ink should be reset
