SOURCE: UNABLE TO TRANSFER VIDEO FROM SONY HANDYCAM DCR TRV TO MY LAPTOP

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camera to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Installing software for my Sony Handycam DCR-HC96

Option 1:

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

(Applicable for Vista Operating System Only.)

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer.

Option 2:

(Applicable for Windows XP Operating System only):

If you are using a Windows XP Operating System then you have to install the USB Streaming Driver in the Computer from the supplied Software disk with the Computer.

Check this Link for the instruction to transfer video to a Computer using USB Streaming.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C222820

If you do not have the supplied Software disk then I suggest that you use the i.LINK cable to transfer the video.

Or you can purchase the software disk from this link:

NOTE: Since the original supplied software is not available for free download now.

I have a sony DCR-DVD100 that has been in storage for a year and now it will not record. Will play back previous disk however on its screen. What could be wrong?

Try Resetting the Camcorder. To Reset the Camcorder, first open the LCD of the Camcorder to locate the Camcorder(on the side of the Camcorder, next to RECORD and VOLUME buttons). Then, press and release the RESET button using a sharp pointed object. Then, check whether the issue is resolved.
If the issue still persists service of the Camera is required.
You may also try changing the battery.

Would record images

DCR-DVD100 is mentioned in free of cost CCD replacement scheme announced by Sony.
If you want to replace it by yourself then it requires few $$ and soldering expertise.
I would recommend to contact Sony and let the job done by Sony experts. You will spend $15 in shipment, Click Sony Support for details.
Good Luck.
