2844 UPS Printer Prints Duplicate Labels

By trish400 on Dec 04, 2008

Everytime we create a shipment from the UPS Website, we print the label to our 2844 thermal printer. For every shipment it creates (2) labels. I have checked all of the settings and can't find anything that would cause this. It is NOT a return label, it is just a duplicate of the shipping label.
We contacted UPS and the only thing they were able to do was send us a new printer. Guess What?? The problem even happens with the new printer. Any thoughts?

-   Is there a software patch to make 2844 work as a normal labeling printer?

-   We recently git a new shipping computer and installed the driver, and now we get 2 labels printed each time. The old computer never had this problem.

So maybe its related to the latest driver from UPS?

-   I'm encountering the same problem, and have been for months now (since we initially received the 2844 Thermal Printer.

I've tried multiple troubleshooting.. One of which involved a test with multiple browsers (IE, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape, AOL) all to no different conclusions other than duplicate labels.

It's definitely UPS telling the printer to do this because as the 'print page' sends data to the printer you can close the page at a specific time interval and only 1 label will print.

UPS won't admit their problem, although I have proven it to them. I don't know what to do further other than deal with the waste of labels. Sorry people..

-   I have that same problem only when I use Mozilla Firefox, is safer than Internet Explorer. Maybe thats the problem, to many bells and whistles -   lutonia

In general the Zebra range of printers including the TLP2844 are very stable, we sell them by the dozen and have never heard of printing dual labels when one is meant to be printed. I suggest the following to find out where the error is emanating from.
1/ If you have another non 2844 printer, try that, if it is OK then it is the 2844 printer that is at fault.
2/If no other printer try printing to the 2844 from another web site, if it is OK then it is the UPS website that is telling you to print 2 labels.

These 2 actions should tell you where the fault lies, if you still cannot figure it out contact us at http://www.lancerlabels.co.uk/ and use live chat to discuss the problem. or email us from this web site

The quick and simple answer is to use a different driver instead of the 2488 driver that UPS provides, that is where the problem lies..
Under printer properties, Advanced Tab, I changed the printer driver to Zebra S4MDT-200dpi and now the printer works fine. Prints labels correctly, and most of all only one label at a time... The drivers are there in the UPS software, just change which one you use and go...

Here's how to fix the duplicate label problem:

1) Go to Control Panel "Remove/Add Programs" and remove the UPS Plugin.
2) Go to Control Panel "Printers/Faxes" and delete the thermal printer. If there is more than 1 thermal printer, delete them all.
3) Disconnect or Power down the thermal printer.
4) Reboot.
5) Run the driver program. It usually unzips to "C:\UPS Drivers".
6) Turn on the printer and connect it in to USB.
7) When the hardware wizard asks for the location of the driver, enter "C:\UPS Drivers" or wherever you unzipped it.
8) Now run the Plug-in program as usual.

Done!

P.S. You can delete the "UPS Drivers" folder.

- Okay, I've installed this on three computers now and here is my revised fix that definitely fixes the double label problem in Firefox. This was done using Firefox 3.06. I don't know know if it works on other versions of Firefox.

- Go to Program Files\UPSThermal. There is a file in there named npEltr32.dll. Copy the file off somewhere.

- Now uninstall the UPS Thermal plugin using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs Icon.

- Reboot the machine. Make sure Firefox is closed.

- Copy the npEltr32.dll file into Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins.
