Question about Nu Mark Numark Cdx Table Top CD Player CD Player

17 Answers

Won't read discs, just spits them out.

I have 2 CDX dex, one of them will not read discs at all now, it just spits them out, the other works fine. its not the cd player because i have changed them over from the deck that works and it still wont read discs, i have also changed the ribbon cable which worked for a couple of days and now is back to not reading discs. every now and again it will read a disc but will get a few tracks in and start repeating the same few seconds over and over, if you filck it to another track it goes back to not reading again!!
is there any other part i can replace that will fix this as i know its not the cd player or the ribbon cable???

Yes I have cleaned the lens. I will try again when I get home and let you know. Is there any other solution if the lens cleaning doesn't work?

When you optic is bad, do you mean i need a new cd player unit? Because It's deffinatly not the cd unit as it works fine when i put it in my other cdx.

  • dj catch Dec 06, 2008

It is NOT the cd player as it works when i put it in my other cdx.

  • dj catch Dec 06, 2008

The cd player is fine IT IS NOT THE CD PLAYER. What else could it be?

  • dj catch Dec 16, 2008

It now works after being on for a couple of hours, but i then have to leave it on all the time for it to work. I saw something on this website about the ribbon cable being re-seated, what does this mean?

  • dj catch Dec 17, 2008

it seems to need to warm up for an hour or two before it will read any cd's.

  • dj catch Dec 17, 2008

    No, its still the same!!!

  • dj catch Dec 17, 2008

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CD PLAYER UNIT, IT WORKS WHEN FITTED IN A DIFFERENT CDX.

Its the internal circuit issue the components r loose just needs resoldering as they should directly get heated as u turn the device ON.but its taking time to get heated because its loose inside just resolder the loose components on the main circuit board internally in the device.

HI,
MY friend , honestly speaking there is nothing more that can be done apart from what you have already tried to make it work , by changing cables and even replacing with the good known drive. The cdx can be repaired , but finfding parts for it would be a challange .

Thanks
proton

    HI,

    Check the following website.

    http://www.instrumentalparts.com/nucdxsp...

These are all the parts that you can replace in the cdx. Suspectable points of failure on your drive can be because of the following .

    1. Centre spindle

    2.Switch track selector

    3.PCB funcational assembly

    4. PCB I/O assembly.

    Thanks

    Proton.

NOTE: open up the cdx to repair and replace parts inside , if you are comfortable working with the electrical equipment. Best of luck

The reasons why its spits out because the laser that reads the CD were not functioning anymore and grips that holding the CD were loosen. All you have to is open it or dismantle it and tighten a little bit and replace the CDrom lens. bring it to service center near you and ask for their help to replace it.

Is the player detectingb the disc? try to insert discs at the same time to each of the players and check if loading time is the same, if not it is certainly hardware problem and can perhaps be solved by moving the cd player (I mean puting the player upside down) while loading the disc.

Take this advice for free. Reinvest money into a digital system. Get rid of the cd players and do some research into digital solutions. They are much more reliable, weigh less, and have less mechanical parts to break.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I am assuming that you already have opened the CDX a number of times. Right at the center of the bottom cover would be the power supply board. This is where the wires from the transformer go to. Inspect the capacitors. There would be about 3 that are bigger than the others. Pls inspect the top and make sure that it is flat and shiny with no discoloration. Capacitors in general provide filter to the power supply and clean up the rectified outputs of the diodes. If any losses its capacitance, then the DC voltage would be relatively lower. While at it you may want to straighten a bit the flexible white cable that plugs into the DA converter PCB. it might also be to your advantage to clean the exposed contact tips with a hard rubber eraser.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Hi The C601 will not spin up the disc unless one is detected. If the optics are bad and do not realize that the disc is there...
Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem, the optics are bad. The optics in this unit are KSS-240 (I think). This part costs about $30-$40 depending upon where you get it. You can try to replace it or have a shop replace it for you. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost. This is a relatively simple repair. I have done 100s. It usually takes about 45 minutes plus the testing time.

Hi,

see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.
Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track. Please refer to the image i have attached.

If this doesnot work Optic is bad in your unit .
You need to replace it . It will cost you around $70 -80 .

You need not buy new cd player . You can repair it . If you take to local repair shop they will repair you and they will charge around $70-80 for optic problem .

  • SAM ANDERSON Dec 06, 2008

Optical block includes the laser diode, associated
optics, focus and tracking actuators, and photodiode array. It is defective so it is not not able to encode the data properly from the disc . Thats the reason you are having intermittent behavior . Some time reading disc and at other time it is not reading disc .

When i put a cd in the cdj it won't read it and ejects it

Hi,

This is more than likely a laser issue. Does it spin the disc up? The first thing the CDJ will do when you put a disc in, is look for a reflection of the laser, which tells it that there is a disc inserted. There should be a short pause whilst it does this, before it fails and spits the disc back out again. If this is the case, there is either dirt and grime on the laser lens, or the laser needs to be replaced. Normally I recommend replacing the traverse mechanism, which includes the spindle motor and laser assembly.

If this needs to be replaced, either ask for more help, or contact your local Pioneer Service Agent.

Hope this helps :)

My Numark Cdx and Numark Cdn90 are frozen

Hi Mitchdias,
Have you tried downloading the most recent rom update for the CDN-90? All you need to do is download it from here http://www.numark.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1493/tt/5 , then burn the download to disc. Once that's done, put the disc into the player, switch the player off and wait 10 seconds, then switch it back on again. the player will read the disc and flash the ROM. this should reset the player for you. Before you ask, you can out the disc into either side of the player. Full instructions are given with the download.
