If you mean toner, you can probably do it, but most new printers have a memory chip on the cartridge which keeps track of toner. Adding toner will not change the count and the printer will ignore the new toner

Hp clj 3600 error code 51.23 find the solution

51.XY ERROR
alternates with To continue turn off then on
A printer error has occurred.
X Description:
2 laser
Y Description:

Your error then comes from the magenta laser.

The recommendations from the service manual are:

  2. Reseat DC controller connectors J1022, J1026, and J1027.
  3. Reseat laser/scanner unit connectors J101A, J101B, J5001A, J5001B, and J5020.
  4. Replace the laser/scanner unit as necessary.
  5. Replace the DC controller PCB as necessary.

Problem Error Code 54.OC.01 For HP Color LaserJet 3600 Printer

If the error won't go away, the DC Controller in the printer will have to be replaced.
The ".0C.01" part of the error can't be found in the service manual, but I don't think that it will change the fix.

I have a HP CLJ 4700dn printer which keeps on giving 49.2FCC

That error is a firmware error, you might try again to download and install the update, or try a new memory stick if you have additional memory installed.

51.23 from the printer clj cp3505

51.xy error in color laserjet usually point to the laser scanner. I cannot confirm this for the cp3505 at this time but HP codes are fairly consistent.
In your case the scanners all come in one unit pretty expensive. RM1-6338-000CN
You can try checking cables to the assm. if you want to get that involved and swapping toner. Bad toner can cause strange problems.
Hope this helps
