both tweeters work all the time, the front right speaker are intermediate. the rear speakers don't work, and front left seaker doesn't work either. the door chime is very low, barely able to here it.both tweeters work all the time, the front right speaker are intermediate. the rear speakers don't work, and front left seaker doesn't work either. the door chime is very low, barely able to here it.

Check the settings on the receiver and amp. If this HHR is wired in the usual manner, one wire pair brings power to the whole speaker unit. In that unit is an electronic device called a crossover network and it separates the sound signals to go to either speaker. If your woofer is not making sound, check the coil on that speaker and check the crossover network with an ohm meter.
Take off the door panels, and check connection to the speakers, and trace it back through the door wiring and see if there are any breaks or kinks in the wire, or anywhere the outer coating has come off. It sounds like you may have a short in the system, something isnt grounded right. It can be a long, tiring process attempting to find the issue, but it is the only way. Something that would be cheaper than taking it to a dealer would be to find a local stereo store, and either have them trace it for you (they can use an ohmometer to check resistance and connection), or just have them put standard speakers in and possibly a new deck. It is hard to say without having the vehicle, but it is a wiring issue from the sounds of it. Breaks in wires can come from pinching in the body, under seeats, in door panels, or harnesses connecting to the doors.
the best solution I've found is this: 1. Remove all the tweeter screws. 2. Take a thing metal rod (a coat hanger should work) and lightly tap the tweeter through the top port in the rear until it is loosened and comes out. The tweeter is totally sealed so you probably won't damage it if you need to do this to a working tweeter.
This method also works for the woofer but you need to be very careful to tap the frame or magnet of the woofer and not the cone.
hi, have u first disconnected the tweeters and then checked, as if its on a cross over, the tweeter is in series with a capacitor,if u have a ohms meter or a continuety tester check the tweeter coil if its open, secondly you can have the coil replaced, check if u can get one before buying a new,let me know
