How to manually adjust the centering of the picture

The old TV's had adjustment features on the back to center the screen image. My new Samsung out of warranty is having a problem with the picture being centered properly. Anyone know anyway I can adjust it by myself?

On newer televisions the centering adjustment is only in the service menu. I wouldn't suggest anyone accessing it unless you understand all of the abbriviated alignments.

Hello,
Make sure you have your resolution set to 1680 x 1050 as this is the native supported screen size for this LCD. Also check your graphic card's overscan or manual adjustment settings. They might be manually set to offset the screen picture.
Hope this helps,

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Picture is distorted from center on my 65

You do have a failure in the convergence circuit of your set. If you are good at soldering you can replace the IC's yourself. They are on the large circuit board on the left side of the set looking from the back, and attached to a large aluminum heat sink. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I reccomend removing the board and sending it to PTS corp in Indiana. They are pretty reasonable repairing boards, and a lot less than buying a new one.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.

There are manual settings on most projection tv's to adjust the size and to bring the picture down so it is centered on the screen better. Try adjusting the three colors mentioned below first. All projection tv's are pretty similar. If you need to adjust the picture manually, which you should not have to, there are manual knobs behind the front of the tv or at the rear. They should be marked for thier function.

Here is how to adjust the convergence one color at a time. You should be able to get to the convergence screen with your remote. You need to go into the setup screen and read what is on the menu there. It should say how to adjust when you get there.

Convergence- The Auto convergence feature automatically adjusts the TV’s tubes
(this may take several minutes, after which you can make fine adjustments to the
convergence settings); Red convergence displays the Red convergence screen,
allowing you to use the arrow buttons to align the red and green images; Blue
convergence displays the Blue convergence screen, allowing you to use the arrow
buttons to align the blue and green images.

Also this is in the manual for a generic projection tv.

Had the same problems.  This was after the a power outage.  Had green vertical and horizontal lines, like a checkered shirt.  But I searched online and found the simplest solution.  Just unplug the power.  And it worked.
