Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Mitsubishi ws-65809 Convergence will not align correctly

I used your site to figure out what my original problem was with my set however, before I removed my board and replaced the convergence ic's I went into the advanced menu using the 72 point convergence grid and manually moved each line of the grid up one line to try and align it when the picture was bowing. After replacing the board and resetting back to the factory convergence setting I can't seem to get it to align properly. The bowing of the picture is gone but the bottom and top line at the advanced convergence menu is now off. the top right corner and bottom left corner lines will not match up. the end result is that if there are any words at the bottom of the screen they will be noticeably off either running off the screen or being cut off at the right bottom edge. I hope this makes some sense to somebody out there. This is an awsome site that accurately diagnosed the original problem and everything would most likely be fine if I had never tried to keep moving up lines in the advanced convergence menu. Thanks for your previous help, hopefully you can help me again!

You may also have a resistor burnt out for the convergence ICs.. They are all right in front of the ICs and will usually show browninsh if burnt up. If bad, replace the pair and maybe the ICs as well if they've failed again. If your new ICs fixed the lines so they'll move, then you may have problems with the centering magnets on the yokes of the crts. Dont move the yokes or magnets if you can help it, but look to see if some of the manufacturers glue broke free and let the magnet spin around the neck of the tube. If so, try to put it back where it was and then re-converge.

Good morning, I am in the moving business and have a customer that wants me to move their large TV Mitsubishi medallion tv. She thinks is comes apart in two peices for easy moving and I need instructions...

If the model is a WS-65809 that sey doesnt come apart. Actually very few rear projection TVs can be seperated Some RCA TVs can be disassembled to several pieces. Also I would let customer know that because a CRT TV has three CRTs that are aligned to each other , Moving the TV will cause the convergence to be adjusted. Based on model it can be just pressing the auto convergence option with the remote, But older rear projection TVs (2003 and older) have been known to blow ICs after a move when trying to reset the convergence. The ICs weaken over age and they can blow anytime the convergence adjustment feature is used, so its always a good thing to let someone know that even if very careful when being moved there set may develop convergence issues after a move because its a 3 CRT rear projection TV

You have a bad convergence circuit. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains how to correct the problem and where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Image problem with WS-65809 65" Mitsubishi Projection TV

WS-65809?, if convergence is skewed and comes and goes, uses two of the STK-392-570 CONVERGENCE IC chips.

I have seen a lot of the Mitsubishi sets that use these two chips where the convergence jumps in and out. You need to replace both chips and adjust the set.

You can buy a pair of the chips on EBAY for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THE SETS THAT USE THESE TWO CHIPS.

If you or someone you know can do the repair you can save the set and a lot of money--most shops are going to get at least 300 for this kind of repair--I know as I have done hundreds of them here.

The instructions tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair. I have helped many people here do this based on my instructions.

If you want the instructions let me know and I will either post them here or send them to you.

If this information has helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Do you have the tools required to solder electronics? Do you know how to solder electronics? Have you been trained in CRT safty ? Do you know about High Voltage safty? Is the tv Model number WS-65809? Do you know how to perform static geometry adjustement on a WS65809 if needed? Do you know how to perform static convergence alignment on a WS-65809? Do you know how to perform fine convergence adjustement to a WS-65809?

IF
The answer is :yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
AND
You can retreive an error code of 23 or 24 right after the tv shuts
itself off .
THEN
There is a 95% chance that I could tell you what to solder , no parts need to be replaced in your television and you would not have to pay someone to repair it.
