Dark Screen on IBM ThinkPad R-31

When powered on I can hear when the welcome screen comes up and can see a bit but is really dark. I have unplugged it and rebooted but still the same. Wondering where I might be able to adjust the brightness or if there may be a more serious outcome to this problem.

Try to install a vga monitor in the (db 15) Blue video conector...see if your laptop works fine...

then shoud be the inverter of your LCD that is not working anymore..the backlight is dead...that´s why the dark screen is driving you crazy!

see the model of your laptop and try to buy it on ebay..there are a lots of inverters there!
Good Luck!

IBM Thinkpad R51, screen went dark. At the right screen angle, I can see some light from the windows and cursor, but very faint. At that light angle I can maneuver the mouse and click on windows, so all...

The problem
1 The LCD screen is out or
2 The invertor board behind the LCD screen is out or
3 The backlite is out

You have 2 options
1 To use an external monitor for the time or
2 get the laptop fixed by a tech shop

My IBM Thinkpad screen has gone dark but I can still see a bit. Is there a key to brighten the screen?

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp

My ibm thinkpad t30 screen is very dark when i start it up and it wont allow me to see it well

Sounds like you are losing your backlight inverter. It sits under the bottom of the screen and is responsible for converting the DC power of the battery and power adapter to high voltage AC for the backlight in the lcd panel.

How do I find my Thinkpad 2647 cmos battery, to change it?

It is unlikely to be the cmos battery as there are signs [music] that your laptop is booting - shine a light into the screen if you can see an image but it is very dark then it is likely that the screen backlight is not working. If this is the case the most likely causes are a faulty inverter or a faulty screen cable - both can be obtained as a kit quite cheaply on ebay if you have the ability to fit them.

Usually, hitting the 'F7" button while holding down the 'Fn' button (function button) will brighten your screen.

Also, if you're running on battery, to conserve battery power, most notebooks will dim the screen... you can override those settings by going into the control panel and into the power settings (easiest found on the old 'classic view').

If none of that works, your video display could be starting to go bad. Let us know how you fare and we'll go from there!

Good Luck!

Dark screen

Your backlight is probably burned out. It is repairable, but I recommend having a computer repair shop take care of it.

Hi my IBM 2635-6AU, ThinkPad 380ED 26356AU screen is dark and i cant see

From what you are stating it seems like your backlight in your lcd needs to be replaced. Plug an external monitor up to your laptop. Press the fn & f key (the one with the picture of a monitor in it.) Your diplay should project to the monitor. Display is ok.....replace the backlight.

Hope this helps you
