My printer is missing several lines each time

generally speaking this is a cartridge problem - some nozzles are clogged - U need to find tools in the printer menu then find clean printhead and run the process and print the test page or print quality page. and keep doing it 2 or 3 times untill the quality is OK - If still no good after all of this U can try soaking the printhead in 1/4" of warm water for 15 minutes and try again - if you are using original HP cartridges you are pretty much done at this point - if you are using refilled or aftermarket cartridges try replacing the black cartridge (I am assuming this is giving you the problem described) with a new HP (buy the small one just in case it still doesnt work) oif you have a cartridge refill place nearby U cant check and see if they can physically clean the printhead for you but results are not always good

What causes letters to fade 3 inches in from the left margin, in a vertical line down the page, and how can I fix it?

Does this happen when copying or printing or both? If both then likley you have a defective cartridge, or something in the printer is blocking the scanner. Try gently shaking the cartridge to see if that helps. If it does, then either the toner is clumping or the cartridge is getting empty. If this only happens when making copies then probably the scanner glass is dirty.

Black cartridge problem device documentation. HP Officejet 4500

This type of HP 901 ink cartridge error ("Refer to Device Documentation", etc.) condition is likely an internal micro-electronic failure inside the HP 901 (or 901XL) black ink cartridge. These failures typically occur due to natural degradation of internal micro-electronics over time and can occur with brand new ink cartridges.

To confirm root cause and check the internal electrical condition of both black and color ink cartridges, please execute the 'Tap 41' cartridge's electrical diagnostic test below (refer to procedure B).

CAUTION: Be advised, the use of remanufactured ink cartridges is considered somewhat unreliable since the cartridges are already on their 3rd life when purchased new (off the internet or at select retailer stores). As well, the use of compatible/clone cartridges (i.e. sold thru the internet from China) are known to be problematic and may cause printer errors.

NOTE 1: Unfortunately, alignment pages and internal self test prints will usually print Ok even if the cartridge is internally electrically damaged. Do not use these test pages as a proxy for determining whether a cartridge is good or bad, only the 'Tap 41/43' diagnostic test report can yield this information.

A. Ensure BOTH carriage/flex cables and BOTH ink cartridge contacts are thoroughly clean before proceeding:

B. Validate the cartridge's electrical health by running the 'Tap 41' diagnostics test. Refer to 2nd video procedure at the following link on how to activate and read the service test:

a. Load Letter/A4-size paper into paper feed tray.
b. If any lights are blinking, first press Cancel to attempt to clear.
c. Press the * and # keys simultaneously.
d. Enter 124 at keypad. The 'Underware' menu should be displayed.
e. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System Menu. Select Ok.
f. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'print-mech tap test'. Select Ok. Printer screen should display "code = 0".
g. Use the arrow keys to enter "code = 41" (or just enter 41 on keypad). Select Ok. The Tap 41 diagnostic test pattern prints.

--- Providing the HP 901 (or 901XL) color cartridge is partially functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical health - the printer will attempt to print the diagnostic test print). A good HP 901 color cartridge should display 1248 good nozzles, while a good HP 901/901XL black ink cartridge should show 336 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the diagnostic test print:

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink.

Hopefully this helps....

My Lexmark 5600 series will not align properly. Ink levels are both within operating levels, above 75% Will not print documents. The LCD screen flickers up and down, pixels are all scrambled. I have...

Pull out the cartridges and clean any residual glue on the bottom of them by scratching them with your fingernail. Wipe the contacts in the printer and the cartridge with a LINT FREE cloth. Gently replace the cartridges. If they don't go in easily then you're doing it wrong. Clean and realign the cartridges. If these steps don't work then the only thing you can do is hit the cancel (red x) button on the printer to bypass the message for every print job you do.

I have an HP 2140 fax purchased one year ago. I have never replaced the catridge and have used the fax about once a month. Today I am trying to copy and it won't print. I cleaned the nozzle and still...

New cartridge wouldnt print but sounded like it was printing. You can check ink levels clean or align cartridge by pushing menu then tools. I cleaned contact points w qtip and alcohol. What seemed to work is putting alcohol on cartridge where ink is released and putting back into machine wet did this three times first time little dots of ink then a faint print and now it is printing must have been dried ink further then I could access.

How do I align the cartridge after I replace it. The fax printed out a sheet and the lines are not straight. I went to align cartridge and then I am not sure how to adjust the lines

Follow below steps to complete alignment.

  • With the Cartridge compartment cover open, insert the print cartridge into the print cartridge cradle with the contacts facing into the unit. When the cartridge is seated in the print cartridge cradle, push the top of the cartridge towards the back of the unit until the print cartridge clicks into place.
  • Close the cartridge compartment cover and control panel.
  • Press the Start/Enter button.
  • On the keypad, press 1 if the replacement print cartridge is new or 2 if the replacement print cartridge is old
NOTE: When you put in a new cartridge, you must choose 1: New .When you put in a used cartridge, choose 2: Used . This helps you to check the correct amount of ink you have left.
  • An alignment page will print and 06 [01-11] will show on the display
  • Look at the alignment page and select the number under the straightest line, and then press that number on the keypad and then press Start/Enter .
