Question about Dell A920 InkJet Printer

Calibrate the carriage

I need help in calibrating the carriage. It now slams on either side of the printer. I was troubleshooting my Dell A920 printer because the new black cartridge was not jetting the complete words. After cleaning, flushing etc it still was not jetting the complete words. I unscrewed the cartridge carriage and tried to see if there was something blocking the jetting or contacts. I move the carriage to one side and forgot to put the screws back in (stupid move). Now it slams both sides whenever I turn the printer on. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Printers are finely tuned machines. Unplug it from the wall for a couple of minutes. Let it forget about the pain. Turn it back on see if it realigns itself. You may get lucky. otherwise, You may need to unscrew the same screws and make sure the cartridge holder is pushed securely on the track. Good thing new printers aren't too expensive. Buy a model that takes the same kind of ink. That is where their money is made. Good Luck, Tim

T1100 unable to detect media edge. replaced line sensor, carriage PCA. Cannot calibrate line sensor. Panel reads calibrate sensor to black but does not print pattern and says "return error: 2".


I have seen this error occur when the carriage does not move smoothly left to right...are the shafts properly lubricated and the carriage belt in good shape (not frayed or teeth missing)?

Also there are special paper considerations for the calibration to work...Bright White Inkjet Paper is recommended., not just plain paper.

call DELL technical support number and ask if there is available spare parts for broken cover replacement, you might end up replacing the whole ink carriage.

Calibrates the printer again and again to align

Calibrating the printer using HP Toolbox
Use the following steps to calibrate the printer using HP Toolbox.
1 Open the HP Toolbox.
2 On the Troubleshooting tab, click Calibrate now.

Calibrating the printer at the control panel
Use the following steps to calibrate the printer using the printer control panel.
1 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select SYSTEM SETUP and then press (SELECT).
2 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select PRINT QUALITY and then press (SELECT). CALIBRATE COLOR will display on the control panel.
3 Press (SELECT).
4 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select CALIBRATE NOW and then
press (SELECT).
5 Press (SELECT) to start the calibration.

Color printing, not so colorful. Even with new cartridges


Your model has some print quality pages built in to help diagnose and solve print problems.

1) Press <Menu>
2) Press <Down> button to highlight "Diagnostics"
3) Press the <checkmark>
4) Press <Down> button to highlight "PQ Troubleshooting"
5) Press <checkmark> to print the pages

If you see print-quality defects on the print-quality-troubleshooting pages, calibrate the printer. To calibrate the printer (optimize print quality):

1) Press <Menu>
2) Press <Down> button to highlight "Configure Device"
3) Press <checkmark>
4) Press <Down> button to highlight "Print Quality"
5) Press <checkmark>
6) Press <Down> to highlight "Full Calibrate Now"
7) Press <Checkmark>

Dell A920 cartridge stall error.


Hi, I HAD the same problem, but not anymore!! I just opened the top to expose the "inside of the printeri" and checked the long clear band at the rear behind the print head. Make sure that the clear ribbon is NOT TWISTED. There is a small metal bar with a small extended part on the far left interior of the printer. Just make sure that the slot on the clear band is fitted on that extended part. This will put the print head back "on track" This worked for me!!

I have a Dell A920 printer. Carriage stall error


Try this trick. Turn off the printer, reach in and manually move the carriage to the other side of the printer. Then, unplug it, plug er in and try again. If that doesn't work then it's most likely a dead unit.
