SOURCE: instrument cluster removal 2001 buick century

You have to remove the dash but it is VERY simple to do.

Remove the fuseblock cover on the end of the dash on the passenger's side.
Once removed, remove the screw holding on the end of the dash.
Now, next to the glove box, to the right, remove the one screw on the bottom. Then remove this panel by pulling it out (it will now be held on by two clips at the top.)
Now, looking at the temperature control cover, remove the two screws from the bottom of this. Pull it off. It also is held on by two clips.
Now, below the steering wheel, remove the one screw from this panel (on the right). On the left there is a "plug" holding it in place, Pop out this plug. I think there are a couple of clips now holding this on at the top.
Now that you have all of that pulled out, pop the dash out. At worse, it is held in with clips.
Now that you have this out, there are four screws holding in the instrument panel. Take out these four screws. You will find one electrical cable connected to the cluster. Pop that off of the cluster and you now have the entire instrument cluster in your hands.

I've had to take mine out to figure out why my gear indicator/odomiter would not illuminate (Buick told me it was a light). I can see where this encased LED has a short (black mark). It is soldered onto the board. Looks like I have to purchase a repaired board.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: instrument cluster 2001 buick century

It comes off from the front. Open the front passenger side door and remove the fuse panel access door on the right hand side of the dash. There`s 1 screw to remove frome the dash cover and then pull the cover off. It`s easiest to work the top out and then lift up and out. Then there are 4 screws that hold the instrument cluster in place, remove them and pull it out andf you`ll have access to the bulbs.

Once you do it you`ll find you can pull the ****** out in 5 or 10 minutes.

The cluster will have to be sent out for repairs or exchange by a dealer or see Model Electronics.

SOURCE: Instrument Cluster Panel out on 2001 buick century

2001 Century just hit 40,000 miles and the engine light has come on. Im wondering if this is an automatic when the car trips at 40K- for a check up or whatever GM wants your money for.

ps - from '89 to 2008 I had been driving Nissans, Toyotas and Hondas - Im driving this car only because I gave my Toyata Rav4 to my daughter and got this Buick from my elderly mother as she no longer drives. Its is amazing what a piece of **** this car is compared to what Im use to. At 40,000 miles you start having the engine light come on - amazing!

SOURCE: blower motor fan works on high setting only

The resistors are located in the firewall just above the blower motor. they have a heavier gadge wire going to it. As for the water if it is not antifreeze then you have a leak in your cowl area by the lower windshield. I ran in to this problem on several gm cars such as yours it can be deficult to find good luck

Odometer light just went out it not lighting up in the p r n d and to tell me how many miles on my car but everything else works

There are (4) small surface mount resistor on the circuit board attached to the instrument cluster. Very easy to get to. once you remove the dash covering which spans the entire lenght of the front dash. It's that strip just above the glove box door. The strip is held in place by plastic projections. Starting at either side slow wedge a flat blade screw driver or small putty knife in the seam and apply pressure piece will start to separate. Note: Steering wheel most be in the furthest down position so that the dash clears when removing. Once you get the cover completely off, there are (4) screws that hold the instrument cluster in place. Remove them and slowly pull the cluster towards you. There is an electrical cable plugged into the back of the cluster, disconnect it and the cluster is free. On the back of the cluster in a snap in place plastic cover. Remove it by releasing the small plastic snaps, a small flat blade screw drive will do the trick. remove the circuit board. On the component side upper right hand corner you'll see what appears to be four tiny black surface mount resistors If they are all still attached, one or more may be missing. Note: what happens is that due to heat they become loose or completely de-soldered. Go to radio shack or any electronics store and pick up (4) 150 Ohm, 1/4Watt, 5% tolerance resistors. Remove any remaining surface mounts sta\ill attached and solder the new resistor in their place. you're done just reverse the procedure to put back together and you're done. Total time to repair about 45 minutes. there is a YouTube video that takes you through the procedure step by step. Go there and type in 1999 buick century odometer light repair.

1999 buick century odometer light does not work

this is a common problem and the dash cluster must be removed and sent out for repair, cost is about $175 to replace the LED (Light emitting diode) display that has burned out, this is a faxtory defect as far as this expert is concerned, it is not a fuse problem.

2001 Buick Regal lights for odometer and PRNDL sometimes fade, sometimes go to black, and at other times, light up.

Wrong! Non of the above. I just fixed that problem. The problem is loose resistors on the instrument cluster's printed circuit board. It is four bigger resistors parallel to each other. Re solder them and your odometer cluster is back to perfect.

99 Buick Century Custom; Dash lights stopped working.

The problem is with a set of resistors on the back of the instrument cluster. If you remove the trim panel in front of the cluster, there are four screws holding the cluster in. Remove the four screws and remove the cluster. Unplug it from the wire harness and flip it over. Unclip the back black plastic cover. Pull the printed circuit board straight out. Now, flip the board over and look on the top right quadrant just to the left of the trip odometer button. You will see up to four small cylindrical resistors. There should be four, but the solder on these seems to give out and they fall off the board. How I fixed mine was to go to Radio Shack and get 4 1/2Watt 150Ohm resistors and solder them in place of the four lousy ones. Reading the old ones, they ran from 127Ohm, to 154Ohm. Checking on other posts, I have seen that they are supposed to be 125Ohm, but either way, the 150Ohm was the closest I could get and they worked perfectly.

Odometer light out on a 01 buick century

I had this same problem and I removed the long plastic dash piece that goes from door to door (after removing other pieces which hold that one in place) and then tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position. turn the key and put the car in gear 1 then shut the car off -this enables you to remove the instrument cluster, which is held in by 4 screws. Unclip the back of the instrument cluster and remove the circuit board. On the board to the right of the speedometer are 4 resistors which look like tiny black cylinders -these need to be replaced (if they haven't already fallen off the circuit board). I was missing two and I just touched the other two with my finger and they fell off. I soldered onto the board 150 ohm, 1/8 watt resistors ($1.99 for a packof 5 at Radio Shack). This entire process took me about 30 minutes. I put everything back together in the reverse order I took it apart and my instrument cluster, odometer and gear-shift indicator works fine.

2000 buick century odometer does not iluminate

This is a common problem.
After many hours of internet research, I stumbled upon the only repair suggestion that sounded reasonable to me.
I performed the repair and it was successful.
I now have odometer and prnd321 lights.
There are four small resistors on the upper right section of the instrument cluster circuit board (just to the left of the tripmeter reset).
The solder connections of these resistors become corroded over time. Three fell to floor when I ran my finger over them.
I replaced the four resistors with 1/2 Watt 150 ohm resistors (soldering skills are required).ead66ee.jpg

Odometer indicator not working for buick century custom 2001

You do not need to replace the instrument cluster! The fix for this is a pack of resistors that you can buy for $1.00 or less. Take the cluster right out and you'll see 4 resistors in the upper-right area on the back of the cluster. You can probably pick them off with your finger, they'll be so worn out. Once those are off, solder new ones on (carefully, don't burn your circuit board) and reassemble the dash board.
I fixed the odometer/gear selector light on my 2001 Century this way and there are videos on youtube that will walk you through the whole process.
