The cmos battery is probably dead. It'll need to be replaced. Generally, it's a 2032 battery (button cell about the size of a quarter).

Not sure with a laptop how to do it. If you google your laptop model and service manual (ie, nc6220 service manual), you should be able to get it.

As for the battery itself, try Radio Shack? Any place that sells button cell batteries should be fine.

Usually you can just click No and be fine. If you don't use messenger, I'd suggest uninstalling it. Or even using something like Pidgin (www.pidgin.net) or trillian that can connect to yahoo, aim, msn, gmail, all at the same time.

What is mean CMOS battery use for in computer motherboard ?

CMOS stands for Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. It is basically a chip in the mother board that stores information such as your system hardware settings and date and time. It is powered by a battery the size of a small coin. Without the CMOS battery, your computer will revert to original manufacture hard ware settings every time you turn on your computer. If you keep having to set the correct date and time of your computer every time you turn it on, then it's time to replace the CMOS battery. I hope that helps.

HI! Fujitsu Siemens S7020WL1 doesn't start, black screen and 3 beeps, 1 long and 2 short. Any hint what the problem might be? Appreciate, Leuben (leuben@eol.ca)

Hi there,

It differs between manufacturer slightly but usually 1 long and 2 short beep codes often means that there is a problem with the video card/graphics card of your computer. This could be bad news for a laptop, as most of them do not have discrete video cards that can be replaced.

Hi how can i reset r610 cmos? i taked off the battery and put it again on it's slot but nothing happened

The Fujitsu Siemens Celsius R610 desktop computer uses a Fujitsu D1357 motherboard. (S26361-D1357 actually)

http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/Celsius/R6xx/R6xx.htm#specs

On this page I would like you to go down to the heading - Motherboard, and click on the D1357 to the right.

A PDF file for the motherboard manual will download.

In Bookmarks click on the + sign to the left of -
Overview Board, Jumpers and Connectors.

In the drop down list click on -
Clear CMOS Jumper (J28)

Increase the view size so that you can see it clearly. Click on the + sign at the top of the PDF file.

1) Computer unplugged from power.

2) The jumper goes across the two pins of J28.

(By the default factory settings there is no jumper across these two pins. The jumper may be just sitting on one pin. Kept there to use for this function. {Clearing CMOS settings}
If no jumper is present see if you can borrow one off of a harddrive, etc. Be SURE to put it back on the device afterwards!)

3) Leave the jumper on the two pins for several seconds. I would wait at least five.

4) Remove the jumper. If it was present before, and sitting on just one pin, put it back.

5) Plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

joecoolvette

My main battery stopped working about 6mnths ago and the last couple of days when i turn my laptop on it asks for the time and date to be set all the time can any 1 pls help

Hi, this sounds like the main cmos battery inside the laptop is flat.
It is a thumb nail size battery that holds the settings for you bios where the time and date is adjusted.
To be honest, unless you know how to disassemble the laptop then i would advise you to take it to a repair shop.
Some time the cmos battery is located under the RAM section, but i can't guarantee it.

Hope this has helped in some way.

I THINK YOUR MOTHERBOARD BATTERY MAY BE DAMAGED OR DOWN. YOU HAVE TO REPALCE THE BATTERY AND TRY AGAIN TO START THE PC.

Somewhere inside your laptop is a small watch battery. Refer to the manual to find it's location. This battery powers CMOS. Find this battery and replace it with a new one and it will solve your problem.
