I only download books from the library and even though the due date is not up yet, I get the" synchronize to continue your music subscription".lAm I downloading the books to the wrong option(that's what the library directs you to do)?
Also a problem: I cannot download books from my home computer.

Go ahead and hook your mp3 player up to the PC and hit the sync tab in Windows Media Player. Disconnect it safely and try playing one more time. If that fails, remove the audiobooks completely from the Sansa and reload them.
You might also want to double-check Sansa's website - it seems that one of their firmware upgrades related to Audiobook play.

I was having the same problem when I used Overdrive Media Console to transfer my audiobook files to my Sansa. I updated the license and retransferred and even tried changing the USB settings on the mp2 player. What finally worked? Using Windows Media Player to sync the files instead. When I hooked up my Sansa I chose "use WMP to sync files" and then I dragged/dropped the audiobook files to the mediaplayer window. The audiobook now plays without any problems since WMP made sure the files have the latest subscription update code.
I ran into the same problem with my Sansa when listening to legally downloaded audio books from the local library. This is what I found:

can check by going to settings>usb mode on the player itself. I
think it needs to be for you to use library files like that. " (This worked for me)
"are you copy and pasting the files? if so you will need to use WMP to
sync the files. copy and paste might not be transferring the license." (didn't try this -- didn't need to)
Here's the deal with WMA files - once your subscription expires (or really, the license on the WMA file expires) - you will have to renew your music service subscription or the song will no longer play on your device.
Use Mp3 format songs - they'll never give you this problem.
I received the same error message.
When you download a file from a subscription service, such as an audio book from a public library, you usually have to open the file on your computer first, which I believe, "activates the subscription" with the appropriate license. Some of the services pop up a screen telling you that your license is activated, but others, such as Overdrive, seem to do this automatically.
When I downloaded a book and transfered it to a Sansa c240 mp3 player, I received the "synchronize" error message, but when I went through the above procedure and transferred to the mp3 player, no problems, and no error messages.
