My Gateway NE56R41U will not resond.Locked on open

If you accidentally held down the shift key for more than 8 seconds (could have left something on your keyboard?) then it will lock it out to where you can't use it. Just go to the start menu and then settings, then control panel and then finally accessibility options. Make sure all the 3 boxes are unchecked. (Sticky keys, Filter keys, and Toggle keys)
What I want to know is how did you type this question in the first place if your keyboard isn't working.

Shift or CTRL mouse selection modifiers not working after a few seconds

Hi wdidtd,

It sounds like Sticky keys\Filter keys are activated on your machine (I always confuse the two:] ). Go to Control Panel -> Ease of Access Center -> Make my keyboard easier to use, and make sure neither Sticky keys or Filter keys are marked.

The.spacebar.stopped..working.

If your space bar isn't responding when you press it, or if it responds sluggishly, it's possible that you have inadvertently enabled the "Sticky Keys" or "Filter Keys" accessibility option in Windows.

When these options are enabled, your keyboard response time will be dramatically slowed and may require more than one tap to register a keystroke.

Fortunately, it's easy to disable these functions and return your keyboard to normal working order.

Click "Start" and select "All Programs."

Click "Accessories" and select "Ease of Access."

Click "Ease of Access Center."

Click "Make Keyboard Easier to Use."

Click "Set Up Sticky Keys." Deselect the checkbox that says "Turn on Sticky Keys When Shift is Pressed Five Times." Make sure the box that says "Turn on Sticky Keys" is not checked. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "Set Up Filter Keys." Uncheck the box that says "Turn on Filter Keys."

Click on the checkbox next to "Turn On Filter Keys When Right Shift Is Pressed For 8 Seconds" to deselect it. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "OK" again to save all of the keyboard accessibility changes you have made.

Hope this helps

Hello i was writing an email and held down the shift key for to long and an box came up with three options so i just pushed cancelled and now the keyboard is not working properly.capslock is back to front....

It seems your sticky keys got turned on somehow. Press shift key five times and it should turn off the sticky keys feature and fix your problem.

You might be wondering what is this feature all about, so here goes:

StickyKeys is an accessibility feature to aid users who have physical disabilities, but it is also used by others as a means to reduce RSI (or a syndrome called the Emacs Pinky). It essentially serializes keystrokes instead of pressing multiple keys at a time: StickyKeys allows the user to press a modifier key, such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows key, and have it remain active until another key is pressed.

I hit the shift key too long on my keyboard at work and it asked it I wanted to filter the keys Or whatever and I clicked ok. Now my keyboard is not working. What do I do?

Do you mean your keyboard is now not responding as it should do, or completely not working ?
If you press the SHIFT key 5 times in succession, a box appears asking if you want to change the 'sticky keys' function in Windows.
This means that instead of holding down the keys for SHIFT. CTRL, or ALT, you can just press them once and they will lock on (like an old style manual typewriter used to behave).
It's most likely you now have sticky-keys turned on, so your keyboards going silly.
Press the SHIFT key again 5 times, and that initial box will appear again. Make sure you click on CANCEL using the mouse only. That should fix it.

Keyboard Problem

Holding down the right-side SHIFT key has activated the "Sticky Keys" feature in Windows -- designed for physically-handicapped people who cannot press more than one key at a time.

Access CONTROL PANEL and disable this "Accessibility Option".
