Hope u must be aware of network packets. Each network have its unique network address through which the computer within the network communicate. If a computer with different network address want to communicate with such an environment the packet need to be routed within the 02 different network, which is done through a device called router.

Router is a network device which route's packet between different networks..
An electronic device that connects a local area network (LAN) to a wide area network (WAN) and handles the task of routing messages between the two networks.

It may be the router is not getting wan connection from the modem. Depending on the technology the ISP is using, it could be that they need to allow to assign an IP to your router or there are confliction of configuration or cable connection type between your router and the modem. Or the service to your modem is interrupted for some reason. Try to skip your router and see whether your computer works by connecting it to the modem directly. If that works, reset the router and reconnect it to the modem and see.

I have this router but i want to know hoe to secure my internet connection

By default, the firewall on it should block all incoming connections from the WAN or internet network port (good thing). Make sure you do two things : 1. Change the default password on the router, and 2. secure your wireless using WPA2 for authentication and AES or TKIP for encryption. Also, rename your SSID to something that doesn't give away that fact that your router is a buffalo. I'm paranoid, so I donot broadcast my SSID...if you are too, then this is a good option.

My modem and router won't work simultaneously

They chain together. Connect the modem first to the ISP drop. Then the modem to the routers main port. Then the connect the PC to the router.

Cisco 861 behind Wimax Router from ISP

> WAN IP: 44.55.66.777
> ISP Router LAN IP: 111.222.333.174
> Cisco Router WAN IP: 111.222.333.175

Really? Each "octet" must be a value between 0 and 255, inclusive. A value such as '777' is not valid

D-Link DI-524 is not communicating with modem

Checklist:
* Is DHCP configured correctly?
* Connect your server and laptop to a switch (not directly with the cable)
* Can they ping each other?
* Check that the firewall is configured (or switched off if you have another FW in place)
* Default gateway should be your router, not the computers (until you have configured RRAS for example)

Router

i asssume that you have connected the ethernet port of the modem to the wan port of the router. if that would be the case, yes you need to connect the computer to the lan port of the router to get internet access. that it if you want your computer to be directly connected to the router. but if you're planning to connect wirelessly, you just need to make sure that your router and computer have a wireless capability and your computer.
