My KLH DA1302 5-Disc CD Changer door will not open or close.

Hi: Im Ronald Marts in January 2008 I posted a problem with my KLH DA1302 5-Disc CD Changer,it is still posted on this website on the details of my problem I found that with the top off the door will not open or close, the disc will spin but thats all. After checking all wiring, screws for looseness I gave up and put the top on, being frustrated I foregot to unplug the machine before putting the top on. I put my hand on the top in front of the machine to put in the screws on the back, in the meantime my wife pressed the open- close button and it worked, when I took my hand off it quit working, there is a metalic metal strip on the inside of the top in front that has to make contact to the components inside to solve this problem I put two pieces of wood wrapped up in a wash cloth and wedged them on top of the machine and the cabinet it is kept in one on each side towards the front I know It sounds crazy but it works and my wife is estatic, she likes to listen to her CD,s with her cordless ear phones when she does things around the house. I hope this has helped you all with this problem.

After having my DA1302 unused in a basement for several years, I dug it out to use it and had the same problem -- it powered on but indicated all 5 discs were loaded (when it turned out to only contain 1), made a whirring sound but the tray would not open! My first problem was not being able to open the cover -- I forgot about those 2 hidden screws set deep into holes in the bottom that have to be removed as well as the 5 on the back. Once I got the cover off, after reading your article, I noticed that the metal strip at the top front of the cover looked dull instead of shiny -- thought that might make it difficult to contact the inner mechanisms as you described (probably a safety measure to keep people from operating it with the cover off and possibly causing injury or damage with the laser!). Anyway, I lightly sanded the strip with some fine sandpaper, then cleaned it with windex (lots of black stuff came off) then replaced the cover making sure it was FIRMLY inserted into the top of the front panel, and then replaced all screws, tightening them as much as possible before stripping them (they are only plastic -- be careful!) Voila -- it works again!!!!
