What is the difference between windows 7 editions: starter, home basics, home premium, ultimate, professional, interprice?what is the difference between service pack 1 & 2???pc

Since October 31, 2013, Windows 7 is no longer available in retail (except for the Professional edition preinstalled):[6]
Windows 7 Starter Windows 7 Starter is the edition of Windows 7 that contains the fewest features. It is only available in a 32-bit version and does not include the Windows Aero theme. The desktop wallpaper and visual styles (Windows 7 Basic) are not user-changeable. Microsoft originally intended to restrict users of this edition to running three simultaneous applications but this limitation was dropped.[7]This edition was available pre-installed on computers, especially netbooks, through system integrators or computer manufacturers using OEM licenses.[1][8][9] Windows 7 Home Basic Windows 7 Home Basic was available in "emerging markets", in 141 different countries.[10] Some Windows Aero options are excluded along with several new features.[1] Home Basic, along with other editions sold in emerging markets, include geographical activation restriction, which requires users to activate Windows within a certain region or country.[11] Windows 7 Home Premium This edition contains features aimed at the home market segment, such as Windows Media Center, Windows Aero and multi-touch support.[12] Windows 7 Professional This edition is targeted towards enthusiasts and small-business users.[1] It includes all the features of Windows 7 Home Premium, and adds the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain.[1] Additional features include support for up to 192 GB of Random-access memory (increased from 16 GB),[13] operating as a Remote Desktop server, location aware printing, backup to a network location, Encrypting File System, Presentation Mode, Software Restriction Policies (but not the extra management features of AppLocker) and Windows XP Mode.[1] Windows 7 Enterprise This edition targeted the enterprise segment of the market and was sold through volume licensing to companies which have a Software Assurance contract with Microsoft.[1] Additional features include support for Multilingual User Interface(MUI) packages, BitLocker Drive Encryption, and UNIX application support.[1] Not available through retail or OEMchannels, this edition is distributed through Microsoft Software Assurance (SA).[1] As a result it includes several SA-only benefits, including a license allowing the operating of diskless nodes (diskless PCs) and activation via VLK.[14] Windows 7 Ultimate Windows 7 Ultimate contains the same features as Windows 7 Enterprise, but unlike the Enterprise edition, it was available to home users on an individual license basis.[1] Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional users are able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for a fee using Windows Anytime Upgrade if they wish to do so.[1] Unlike Windows Vista Ultimate, the Windows 7 Ultimate edition does not include the Windows Ultimate Extras feature or any exclusive features as Microsoft had stated.[1] All editions will receive Mainstream Support (new features and bug fixes) until January 2015 and Extended Support (security updates) until January 2020.[15]

How to reset Windows Server 2008 domain password

Windows Server 2008 is one of Microsoft Windows' server line of operating systems. Besides Windows 7.Windows Server 2008 are the latest and more secured versions from Microsoft. Windows Server 2008 has many new features included that system administrators of small and large companies will enjoy.

Many use Windows 2008 server as a workstation. That means A group of computers and devices on a network that are administered as a unit with common rules and procedures. And the host computer manage these computers through its admin account and password.

If you have lost windows 2008 server local admin password, I think it is easy for you to recover the password. But what if you have lost windows domain password? Things will get more tricky and all of the computers in the domain paralyze. These passwords also called AD password. Before solving your password problem, you need to know what is Active Directory Domain Controller.

What is Active Directory Domain Controller?

A domain controller is a server that is running a version of the Windows Server operating system and has Active Directory Domain Services installed.

When you install Windows Server on a computer, you can choose to configure a specific server role for that computer. When you want to create a new forest, a new domain, or an additional domain controller in an existing domain, you configure the server with the role of domain controller by installing Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DS).

There is the diffence bettwen Domain and local. A Windows Server domain is a logical group of computers running versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system that share a central directory database. A user may be granted access to a number of computer resources with the use of a single username and password combination.

A Domain Controller allows password authentication throughout a network. What this means is that your password is checked on the central server no matter which machine you log in from. A Domain Controller can also control access to files and directories which can be setup so users have access to all their files no matter which machine they log in from. This also makes adding and removing users among other things much easier as all that is required is a change on the Domain Controller itself rather than every machine on a network.

If you have lost this domain administrator password (also called AD password), it will be a tricky thing. However, Windows Password Key Enterprise can allow you to reset domain administrator password.
Here is the steps to reset Windows server domain password

Step 1: Download and install Windows Password Key Enterprise in any available computer.
Step 2: Run the software and insert a blank CD or USB Flash Drive to computer.
Step 3: Select Domain Administrator and choose CD/DVD or USB Flash Drive
Step 4: Click Burn to begin bootable disk creation.
Step 5: Insert the newly created CD/USB Flash Drive to your locked computer , but remember you need to set the bios setup , make sure the computer to boot from CD or USB.
If you don't know how to set BIOS, take a look this tutorial.
http://www.lostwindowspassword.com/how_it_works/bios_setting_for_cd.htm

Step 6: And then you can recover your Domain admin password

Now you can log on your domain admin account and reset a new password.
Note: This can also work in Windows Server 2000,2003
cc

I want to run Win Server 2008 Enterprise edition on Dell Optiplex 360. I need the drivers for: NIC, Audio, Video. Thank you

Hello,

Verify that your hardware is compatiable to the Server NOC. (Most are 64-bit software which require 64-bit compatiable software. When you place the server dvd/cd in the 1st time, it will check your system to make sure it meets the minimum requirments for install. If you already have the server os installed, You have 2 chioces: 1. Microsoft Server drivers (Microsoft support) or 2: Download each vendor's drive to your system or portiable drive and install as the server os is installing. (it will ask for 3rd party drivers at the start of install.

Good Luck

Window7 drivers for asus k8vmx

hi

unofrtunately this mainboard is not supported by Winodws 7

Win2003 is about all you'll get (or earlier OS as well)

general information (includes drivers) http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=dJ2XP7zr8tzeYbLp

FYI:

2008 is combination of vista and windows 2003r2. Some new services are introduced in it
1. RODC one new domain controller introduced in it

[Read-only Domain controllers.]
2. WDS (windows deployment services) instead of RIS in 2003 server
3. shadow copy for each and every folders
4.boot sequence is changed
5.installation is 32 bit where as 2003 it is 16 as well as 32 bit, that's why installation of 2008 is faster
6.services are known as role in it
7. Group policy editor is a separate option in ads

The main difference between 2003 and 2008 is Virtualization, management.
2008 has more inbuilt components and updated third party drivers Microsoft introduces new feature with 2k8 that is Hyper-V Windows Server 2008 introduces Hyper-V (V for Virtualization) but only on 64bit versions. More and more companies are seeing this as a way of reducing hardware costs by running several 'virtual' servers on one physical machine. If you like this exciting technology, make sure that you buy an edition of Windows Server 2008 that includes Hyper-V, then launch the Server Manger, add Roles.

3) In Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is introducing new features and technologies, some of which were not available in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), that will help to reduce the power consumption of server and client operating systems, minimize environmental byproducts, and increase server efficiency.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, to provide customers with ready and convenient access to a number of new power-saving features. It includes updated support for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor power management (PPM) features, including support for processor performance states (P-states) and processor idle sleep states on multiprocessor systems. These features simplify power management in Windows Server 2008 (WS08) and can be managed easily across servers and clients using Group Policies

i hope this helps you !

I am attempting to secure my network through this router which at this time is open for the whole neighborhood to see

Here are the diffenent types of Security Settings possible with a wireless router: (how to set this depends on the brand of router)

Security Mode: You may choose from Disable, WEP, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, or RADIUS. All devices on your network must use the same security mode in order to communicate.
Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey) WPA Personal:
Capture(helpwpa.phase8) WPA Algorithm: You may choose from TKIP or AES.
Capture(helpwpa.phase9) WPA Pre-Shared Key: Choose a unique key to authenticate with other devices on your network. The Pre-Shared Key must be between 8 and 63 characters in length.
Capture(helpwpa.phase10) Group Key Renewal: This settings determines how often your group key changes.

Capture(wlansec.wpa2persharekey) WPA2 Personal:
Capture(helpwpa.phase11) WPA2 Algorithm: You may choose from AES or TKIP+AES. Choose TKIP+AES if you have both WPA and WPA2 devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase12) WPA2 Pre-Shared Key: Choose a unique key to authenticate with other devices on your network. The Pre-Shared Key must be between 8 and 63 characters in length.
Capture(helpwpa.phase13) Group Key Renewal: This settings determines how often your group key changes.

Capture(wlansec.wparadius) WPA Enterprise:
Capture(helpwpa.phase14) WPA Algorithm: You may choose from TKIP or AES.
Capture(helpwpa.phase15) RADIUS Server Address: The IP address of your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase16) RADIUS Server Port: The port your RADIUS server uses.
Capture(helpwpa.phase17) Shared Secret: The shared secret set on your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase18) Key Renewal Timeout: Determines how often your keys should be renewed.

Capture(wlansec.wpa2radius) WPA2 Enterprise:
Capture(helpwpa.phase19) WPA2 Algorithm: You may choose from AES or TKIP+AES. Choose TKIP+AES if you have both WPA and WPA2 devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase20) RADIUS Server Address: The IP address of your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase21) RADIUS Server Port: The port your RADIUS server uses.
Capture(helpwpa.phase22) Shared Secret: The shared secret set on your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase23) Key Renewal Timeout: Determines how often your keys should be renewed.

Capture(wlansec.wep) WEP:
Capture(helpwpa.phase24) Default Transmit Key: The key you would like to use for transmitting WEP keys.
Capture(helpwpa.phase25) WEP Key Bit: You may select from 64-Bit or 128-Bit encryption.
Capture(helpwpa.phase26) Passphrase: You may enter a passphrase consisting of any keyboard character to be used to generate a hex WEP key. Passphrase option is only supported when you are only using Linksys devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase27) Key 1-4: You may enter a WEP key manually. You must use only hex characters (0-9 and A-F). 64-Bit WEP requires 10 hex characters. 128-Bit WEP requires the use of 26 hex characters.
