Power/battery indicator is always on as lon...

i press the power button, and the battery and power indicators light up, but nothing else, i think i hear the hard drive run but nothing. i reseated the ram and hard drive, i un hooked cmos battery hopping to reset bios, nothing, the fan doesn't even turn on, it is like the thing is dead. i even took out the battery, held the power switch 1 minute and replaced the battery, nothing. could my mother board be bad? oh by the way, i was given this laptop by a friend, he told me i could have it, since it doesn't work.
