Yes, it's true your hard disk needs to be replaced. Replacing it is easy enough, usually just one screw on the side ofyour laptop and it pulls out, swap the hard drive out and put it back in again. If your laptop supports boot from external device, it can but I don't think yours does since it's only a P III.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya.

SOURCE: when I start the laptop (HP HDX 16) I get this

The Windows edition listed in BIOS (Vista) is referring to the operating system that came with the computer. BIOS's System Diagnostics will always say the OS is Vista, because that is the original OS that HP put on the system. BIOS itself, however, cannot detect an operating system on the new Hard Drive because there is no operating system. In order to get an operating system, you have a couple options:

Depending on the terms and length of your warranty, you may be able to get HP to reinstall the operating system back onto the new Hard Drive. The amount you would pay depends on the warranty. Many warranties, however, become void when you change physical components in the computer (especially with laptops). If this is the case, you will have to try the next option.
You can buy a retail copy of Windows either online or from an electronics store. The price will depend on what edition you purchase, but it will probably cost you at least $100 US.
You can install a Linux operating system on your Hard Drive. If you've never heard of Linux, it is an operating system based on much of the same code as Mac operating systems, but has a more "Windows-like" feel to it. Linux operating systems are NOT the same as windows, and some programs that work in Windows will not work in Linux; you would need to find the Linux counterpart for these programs. One of the best things about Linux operating systems are that they are absolutely free to download, install and use. A very popular and stable Linux operating system is Ubuntu, which can be found at: http://www.ubuntu.com/

Upgraded to windows 10. Getting error messages: boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard disk 3FO. Please help.

There have been lots of issues with W10 which is why I am not upgrading any of my computers. If they run fine with the original software there is absolutely no reason to change.

If I were you I would get rid of W10 and run the computer so it restores all software back to original factory settings but when you do this you will lose any saved files or software you have loaded such as security software.

Alternatively you can soldier on pulling your hair out trying to solve all the issues you will run into because of the W10 upgrade.

Format hard disk dvdr3575h

Download a copy of Puppy Linux(your choice of several) .iso to your hard disk (or somebody else's if yours is caput). Burn (open) it to a CD-R using Brasero(Linux) or Nero(Windoze) don't use the M$ native utility.
Boot your new Puppy Linux using <puppy pfix=ram> at the startup prompt (omit <>). Find GPartEd from the menu and use that to format your hard disc which probably will show up as sda1.
You can format it to Fat32 or something else but this would be a great opportunity to get rid of the appalling M$ junk once and for all.

Hp diagnostic log 03f0

Sounds like an issue with the Hard Drive. Try replacing the hard drive with a known working one. If that doesn't fix the issue then that means the hard drive controller is bad and the motherboard would need to be replaced.

My hard drive has just stopped being recognised by my computers. The computer knows when i plug in but the hard drive does not show up in my computer. The green lights flashes internittently but not...

I had the same problem, This is what I did to fix. get a recent copy of a live disc from linux, run and boot from live disc, I used puppy linux as is small and can run from ram completely, after puppy is up and running you can mount the drive your trying to get photos off, find the photos and copy the not move, to either a portable flash drive or to the c drive acceses through puppy mounting utility, after copying all the photos you require then formatt the drive in linux puppy to ntfs, after this is done shut down puppy remove puppy disc and restart copmuter back to windows and the drive should be accessable once again, I hope this helps

While trying to boot my hp Pavilion dm1 I get error code 03F0 and system doesn't boot (boot Device not found). It says I don't have an operating system on my hard disk. I'm using windows 7.

Typically this is caused by a corrupt windows file which can be caused by a bad disk drive or a software error that has screwed up the disk indexes.

Use your Win7 disk and do a system repair (NOT INSTALL). Often this will clear up any problem.

After that it gets complicated and you probably will need the assistance of a local computer store.

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use

to get them.

I have a hp pavillion ze5385us hard drive making all kinds weird sounds with stop:0x0000008E and vertical lines in center of screen besides a new hard drive can this be fixed andis this worth fixing?

You may have two problems, or just one.

The disk-drive is "failing" -- if it is "misreading" the "wallpaper" picture, then the viewed wallpaper will look to be "corrupted".

Backup all your files, to DVD-writable or USB memory-sticks,
before the disk-drive completely "dies".

Given that you have a "Athlon 64 3800+", it's worth replacing the disk-drive, reinstalling Windows, and restoring your files from your backup.
Much cheaper to replace the disk-drive than to buy a new computer.

LEAVING WATER IN TUB

I think your problem is in the garbage disposal unit. There is a knock-out seal in the outlet on the disposal unit where the dishwasher drain tube attaches. If you don't remove the knock-out then there is nowhere for the dishwasher water to go, and it will spill out onto the floor.
