Have loss of signal...have power...brief flicker of screen then total black...any idea of problem?

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed Princeton monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My LG 2353 monitor screen goes blank by itself. Sometimes it will go into sleep mode or sometimes my screen just blanks out and the power light stays solid red without flickering to indicate whether or not...

shaylane_195, Good description of problem! But you left out one or two key things to tell me. Age of monitor? Approximate total "ON" hours of use? Is unit covered by LG (Lucky Goldstar) warranty? You and only you can tell me if the screen is really BLANK, or is it only BLACK? Do flashlight test to determine true state of screen! Can you see very, very faint image of WIN-desktop holding bright flashlight near your black screen? This monitor works!!! You just need to fix the possible (1) "cold, frosty looking, thermally intermittant solder connection on the "internal switch-mode-power-supply/CCFL inverter board. Yes, your monitor along with many other CCFL back-lit LCD units of all brands also could have some BAD, swollen, leaky electrolytic filter capacitors installed on the SMPS/CCFL inverter board which will need to be replaced with new ones of higher quality. Get back to me, lmistyrel on aim. or do additional comment on fixya, after you do some reading in my and other fixya tech's profiles to discover all options you as consumer/user have open to you. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

Viewsonic vp171s lcd flickers on start up then goes black.

This is typical of a back-light problem, especially when you view the LCD screen at a sharp angle and you see a dim Windows image. This fault is caused by either a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp.
The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. the CCFL lamp is a mini fluro lamp which fails with age and use.
This LCD screen can be repaired, the cost of an inverter board and CCFL lamp is a lot cheaper than a new LCD screen, but this is an opportunity/excuse to buy a larger size LCD screen as these monitors have dropped in price.

I am having trouble when I first turn monitor on. I get a flicker of an image and then black screen. I have to do this multiple times and eventually it stays on. Anything I can do?

m_v_schwartz, Best guess is problem with unit's "switch-mode-power-supply" / "CCFL inverter supply" has a bad "cold" or "frosty looking" solder joint (thermally intermittant solder connection) on the printed circuit board!!! Unit WILL NOT fix itself!! Only you or a qualified electronics technician will fix it. Use your warranty first if valid option!!!! See more of my responses to other LCD black screen symptom OWNERS that I have replied to in my fixya profile. Know and understand the "FLASHLIGHT TEST" that every LCD owner should know how to perform when "black screen" shows up. If this response steers you in right direction, please return to rate this response on fixya. FYI, Also visit web sites I have mentioned in the other responses in profile. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

The monitor turns on and the computer image comes on for about a second then screen goes black again. The image that does come on is perfect.

I'm having the exact problem. I just got the new monitor & I replaced my 18". When I plug it in it flickers, when it does come on it's clear & clean; but after a few minutes it goes black. I tried to switch it to Digital & Analog, but I don't know how to fix it. I know it works, it was just plugged into my brother's computer. Is something wrong with the settings on my computer? If so, how do I fix it? I have both monitors hooked up on my computer desk right now, it's a bit crowded! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I have a LM729 AOC monitor had to turn on and off to get it on then it went black ?

autotech_2, Your monitor if it is an LCD "cold-cathode-fluorescent-tube" backlight type of display your "switch-mode-power-supply" has partially or totally gone into SHUT DOWN mode to save itself from "catastrophic failure"!!! Please go and visit YOUTUBE and search for "LCD disassembly", and "LCD REPAIR" video clips. It will be very helpful to you in making a decision about what steps you should take in getting it repaired and or replaced. Some lcd displays can be fixed by their handy and crafty resourceful owners for $10-$15 dollars. Your problem of a DARK and or BLACK display is quite common complaint. Although you didn't give any history (did monitor have nice, bright, screen prior to the failure? or the AGE of your unit?, approx total "ON" hours of unit?) I still suspect that it is a SMPS/INVERTER probllem. Find out all you can about Swollen electrolytic Capacitors and other common SMPS/INVERTER failure modes of LCD monitors. I hope this info was of some help to you. l'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com please rate this response on fixya. Bye for now.

Flickering monitor

this problem many caused by bad inverter. If invertes not function, it won't feed back a good signal to tell mainboard that LCD backlight is working, so the mainboard turn off the display.

To fix this problem, it is need a qualify technician and inverter's part.
Send it to LG, they will not charge you expensive. LG have a great service.

May this help.

Flickeing like a dying fluorescent light bulb

Actually this is a 'warning' signal from your lcd monitor. The problem is your lcd ccfl lamp are near to their life, need to change. The ccfl lamp like our home fluorescent lamp, when the lamp need to dead, the lamp will flickering first, after some time, will totally off(dead). So, this is a signal for you. Some lcd monitor, when their inverter board are using fairchild inverter ic(oz series), will easily shutdown your monitor when they detected some flickering on your screen (ccfl lamp).
