Re: Can't enable LAN or Wireless Ntwk Connections
Hello, I believe that all you really had to do was just unplug the router for a few seconds then reboot it and try again to connect to it. I've a few routers that for no apparent reason just go off-line wirelessly and that would fix it. You also could just check it's settings to verify it is configured correctly before rebooting it.
Formatting your hard drive was a bit in the wrong direction and a needless process.

As you have mentioned that you have a desktop PC . So you need a wifi lan card to access the wireless router. Then you can access the internet through your wifi router. You can buy a wifi lan card for the same and go for Netgear GA311 for the same. Hopefully it will help you.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then configure wan settings and lan settings enable wireless if you want to use wifi Then save settings and restart router Then connect cable from internet service provider to WAN port of router and connect ethenet lan cable from computer to lan port of router. . Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Try going to Network and Sharing Center - Manage Network Connections. Click on the connection and enable it. Also try Network and Sharing
Center - Manage Wireless Connections, and moving the wireless connection you'd like to use and move it to the top of the list. Select any operations that will enable or connect to the network.
is the mac address registered through your wireless router, your router maybe running wireless mac filter, if not try registering your wireless mac address on your router then try reconnecting your computer to your router.
Check your router to see if the DHCP server is enabled. If not, then either enable that, or manually assign your wireless network card an IP etc.
Also check the router to see if it is set to have access restrictions like mac address filtering. Even with the right IP setup on your wireless card, you will still need to be authorised in the mac address list of the router to gain access.
If you don't have another computer there, or a lan cable to connect to the router, then do a reset to default and it should have most if not all of the security features off and the DHCP server on.
If you clicked repair connection at anytime, you need to reset the router, by way of a reset button on the rear or front, go to your wired network card properties in control panel>network connections, click TCP/IP line, click properties again and select obtain ip address automatically.
At this point you can run the setup wizard again if you wish using the rj45 cable
You should set up the router using an RJ45 lan cable which comes with the unit and get into the routers settings by typing it's ip address in your web browser 192.168.0.1.
Check that DHCP is set at enabled to give your pc's an automatic ip address.
Check that wireless is also enabled and save any changed settings.
Go to the properties of your pc's wireless adapter in control panel network connections and on its TCP/IP line check that obtain ip address automatically is ticked.
when you have set up your wireless connection and the router is set up correctly, disconnect the rj45 cable and if neccassary dissable the wired network card so as the router looks for your wireless adapter and gives it an ip address.
When a connection is found by your wireless connection you need to go into the router again and set up your wireless security, using whatever method you choose eg WEP or WPA PSK.
You need to select the numbers and letters mixture pass phrase that you use for encyption and use the same numbers in the wireless adapter when it asks for the passkey no., you should then be able to connect again securely.
