Question about Panasonic PT-53TW53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Hey guys I have a pretty interesting one for you. I researched all the convergence issues a few months ago, and new I needed to buy new IC's. I bought the C5AA00000203's from Partstore.com, which were expensive but from what I read, more reliable. I finally got around to replacing the convergence IC's today. I have a friend who is an engineer and I wanted to be sure the soldering was done right. We took the back off the tv, got the old IC's out, and replaced them with the C5AA00000203 Ic's from Part Store.com, I didn't want to skimp on the cheap versions of the chips. We got the old chips out, new chips in, my friend said he did a great job on the soldering, and put everything back. We turned on the set, and it stayed on.... Great sign. I went into the convergence menu and it was all out of whack, as expected, but when it said "red" adjustment,it was adjusting the green cross instead of red. When it said "green" adjustment, it was still adjusting green. So I replaced all the IC's and for whatever reason I cannot adjust red! It's like signals got crossed somewhere. I am totally dumbfounded as to why I can't get to the red adjustment. Any ideas would be HUGELY appreciated, I hope I didn't waste 4 hours and $100. Thanks so much and please let me know ANY ideas of what I can do

Before I fixed the IC's, I had complete control over the green and blue convergence adjustments, vertically and horizontally. The only convergence I could not control was the red convergence, horizontally. I could move the red convergence vertically, but it was about 1 inch too far to the left. However, the menus were correct for the adjustments, when it said green, it would adjust green, etc. I'm not sure why the menus are all screwy now, I can't even tell if I fixed the red convergence because I can't get into the menu for it.

Found out what the issue was! Just had the yokes for the red and green switched, tv works perfectly and I couldn't be more pumped that I saved that money!

Bad IC is my guess...

On anotehr note convergence is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You can see some example photos and find a solution here...

Mitsu WS-55859---turned off & only powers up for 2 secs

2,2 is short protection.

98% chance the fuse or fuses (there are two 5 amp pico fuses) that protect the convergence circuit are blown. If you find F9AO4 OR F9AO5 on that board check them--if either is open the STK-393-110 DID IT.

Fairly short life for this chip if it was installed correctly and had heat sink compound applied to it--once in a while you get a bad one.

I got these problems too...

My kodak easyshare c653 camera is 2.5 years old when suddenly did this a few times then completely refused to turn on at all. Research showed me that this is a firmware issue in Kodak cameras. Kodak will look at it and try to fix it for $70 which is not worth it in my case as I paid $130 for the camera brand new 2.5 years ago. Buying a new camera but not a kodak brand.

Did you replaced 2 IC convergence as well or just 2 resitors 3.9 ohms ? if you did replaced 2 IC then you might have probelm in convergence drive it is1 of the PCB mount vertical on the left side from the rear view under part BP95-00415C you need to readjust the convergence by using your remote control just follow in the servive manual

All screen is red

IF THE SCREEN IS ALL RED WITH VIDEO VISIBLE AND RETRACE LINES. ADJUST SCREEN CONTROL IN THE FRONT FOR THE RED TUBE ONLY. TURN CONTROL COUNTER CLOCKWISE. IF THAT DOESNT DO IT THE TUBE CAN BE REJUVINATED.

JVC AV_48WP30 Screen loses color, everything is in like negative color

Sounds like shading, caused by convergence IC or bad solder connections in convergence circuit. Check the CONVERGENCE GALLERY for shading.

JVC design is generally reliable. It is extremely unlikely that you would have 2 unrelated failures.

Hi,
Let me know do you have related service manual of Sony KP-57WS500 to guide you further?
Without service manual it would be difficult for you to understand our directions like what to check and where to go in TV etc.

Samsung Rear Projection HD tv IC convergence green only messed up now. Help please

To check the pico fuses you're merely testing for continuity. If you get an infinate reading you're in good shape - if it doesn't budge the meter the fuse is open... That's a really easy set to work on for convergence problems - the convergence board is easily removed..
Another cause for mis-alignment like that are the youke return resistors... There are several out front of the convergence amps that may have changed in value. They are 3.9 ohm - 2w resistors and will look identical to Rz123 and Rz124 (same banding). For those simply select a low ohm setting on the meter and check to see if any of them have some way low or way high reading...
Need anything else just ask...
