Unfortunately, This is an anti-theft feature which means it is not designed to be easily defeated. The manual suggests that a deliberate action is required in order to set this feature. It is not likely that connecting it to a computer would cause this problem.

Therefore, one must deduce that the device is stolen. I would suggest that you contact ebay and maybe paypal if you used them about a possible refund and to report the individual who sold it to you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here. I hope you find this solution helpful.

Sir,

The Nuvi also comes with a security feature that allows you to enter a four digit password to lock/unlock the unit prior to using it. In the unlikely event your unit is stolen, not having the pin would render the unit useless. Furthermore, you can also set up a security location if you forget your pin. You can either use your home address or the parking lot of a nearby 7-11 etc. If you forget your pin, just drive to the 7-11, and the unit unlocks itself. Or, if you used your home as your security location, the unit automatically unlocks

good luck

In order for this to have saved memory it has to have a power source inside to save the memory. If you could access a schematic you could find this power source and disconnect. This inturn would reset the whole system.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding you actually have two concerns; not only would the lock code be needed but the the Garmin Nuvi 660 must actually be in a certain location termed as "security location". The unit will verify against its programming if the said certain location is the same as the one it has been set to as its "security location". It will make use of the received sat signals to compare.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

To reset do following ...

Procedure 1:
Try to turn the NUVI off and then ON again. Flip the antenna and see if it acquires satellites after a couple of minutes.

Procedure 2:
If 1 didn't work then try a soft reset. Press the reset button at the back of the NUVI (behind the satellite antena) and see if it acquires satellites after 2 minutes

Procedure 3:
If 2 didn't work, then try another reset. This time:
a- Turn off the NUVI
b- Keep the Power Button pressed for about 2-3 minutes. You will see a message indicating Pre-Boot. Keep the button pressed until you see the word LOADER. Release the power button and let it load the software again. After the software is loaded check to see if it acquires satellites after 2 minutes.

Procedure 4:
If 3 didn't work, then try a hard reset. This time:
a- Turn off the NUVI
b- With one hand keep pressing the lower right hand side of the screen. With the other hand press the power button.
c- When the NUVI screen turns on, release the power button, but keep holding the lower right hand side of the screen.
d- A screen will come up indicating if it should erase all user data. Click YES
e- It will take you to the screens to select the language and time zone. Choose accordingly.
f- After the software is reloaded check and see if it acquires satellites.

Procedure 5:
If procedure 4 doesn't work, try to load the updated software. To do this follow this link:

Here is a brain storm ask the seller for the security code! if he doesn't have it file a complaint with ebay or paypal if you used them, it is most likely stolen, happens on ebay all the time.

The only way that you can unlock this is to let the original owner to contact Garmin so they will unlock the unit since they will only unlock it if the original owner will contact them....

    Maintenance Mode:
Step 1. Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer.
Step 2. Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen and keep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do you really want to start in maintenance mode?"
Step 3. Select the yes button.
Step 4. Enter your PIN if enabled.
Step 5. Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections:
                            System information
                            View Diagnostics
                           Clear User data
                            Clear Waypoints
Step 6. After some selections the unit should reboot and you check to verify unit after rebooting.

if you still can't reset the garmin, contact Paypal and claim your money back or you can try register it in your name and send it to garmin for them to sort.
There might be a price for that though

    regards

I'm sorry to have to tell you this ryan, but according to the user manual you have no choice but to send it into garmin for the 4 digit code to be wiped, if i were you i would contact paypal and get your money back because the item is not as described, it could well be stolen!!!!

    regards

If it's similar to other nuvis, just press on the upper right side of screen and then power on the unit while continuing to press on the upper right of the screen. It will prompt you to clear all user data...click on 'Yes'

Assuming that its the 4 digit anti theft password the manual says that you have to send it back to the manufacturers to get it reset

How to reset pin#

Resetting Your nuvi

Depending on your nüvi model, you can reset your nüvi by pushing the reSet button on the bottom of the unit.

CaUtion: Do not reset your nüvi with a ballpoint pen or other sharp object, which can damage the unit or the battery.

If your nuvi does not have a reSet button, slide the Power key to the on/off position and hold it for 8 seconds.

Sorry but that is a security feature. There is a chance you've purchased a stolen unit from ebay. Unfortunately, only Garmin can unlock it and they will require a receipt from a Garmin dealer.

Owners can select a pin code to use which locks the unit preventing use by theives. Sat Nav theft is a big market. The unit needs to be sent to Garmin who will verify you are the registered owner and unlock it for you. If you bought at a market is there a good chance it may have been stolen?

Garmin nuvi 650 unlocking

If you are the legitimate owner, you can send your unit back to Garmin to be unlocked. Be prepared to provide rock-solid proof of ownership because Garmin has a program that prevents stolen units from ever working again. It's one of the reasons that I purchased it. As word gets out that you cannot unlock a stolen unit, thieves will be deterred from stealing them in the first place. And if you try to open the unit to see if there is any easy jumper or something, you will permanently destroy it.
