If it starts to install and then crashes try running the install program in Compatibility mode with a previous version of Windows. Most of the time when I run into this it is a compatibility issue. If your CD drive is not reading teh disk then the problem is the CD drive or CD itself.
If your computer can still accept reinstalling the operating system, try it. Otherwise, your hard disk drive is damaged and cannot be reformated and cannot be repair but still you can purchase new hard disk.
You will need to create an image file from the CD on the hard drive. Most used types are ISO and NRG files. Then mount the image to the virtual drive. Also, all the CDs nowadays have copyright protection so you won't be able to copy them onto the hard drive properly making the image to be corrupt and fail to load. Post back if still having trouble.
