My rci 2950 is skipping channals why and how do i get it fixed?

skipping all by itself or skipping when dial is turned only ? if it skips only when dial is turned , switch contacts inside can be cleaned using knob/potentiomer cleaner in spray can (don't allow it to ruin front cover as its nasty to painted or chromed plastic )

Sound skips

Since you have cleaned the lense I will skip that recommendation. I am assuming that you did not use a cleaning cd as they do nothing and many times cause damage to the laser assembly. You should go to my tip to be sure that you have cleaned it properly http://www.fixya.com/support/r4119308-clean_lense_cd_or_dvd_player If you are absolutely sure that the lense is clean and no damage has occurred then you probably have some dried up hard grease on the rails which the laser slides (tracks) on. Clean this stuff off and regrease with a light lubricant and make sure that you do not get any lubricant on anything. See how this works and let me know.

No disk

When you get no disk error, that is because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others. Often the problem get worse in time.
Try first using a CD lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD lens, or the whole drive unit.

Skipped stitches

You will need to take your machine to a dealer and have it adjusted. Machines should be cleaned and serviced at least once a year. Needles should be replaced when dull. Skipping stitches can also be from using the wrong kind of needle. When quilting on cotton, use sharp needles, when sewing on knits use a ball needle. You can use a universal needle but they aren't perfect and will cause skipping on some fabrics.

Cdj-700s

Hi Je remy
I have a 700s too, it´s showing problems similar to yours. Mine is even worst, it almost doesn´t play no more (shows "NO DISC"). Sometimes, when i turn it off and on, or open the cover, it reads... When pause is pressed, it holds the music for some seconds, then it "slides" thru the music... Sometimes it display an error message (something like E-8something).
I think all these errors are caused by a worn optic reader, but i´m not sure. I´ve already opened my unit and cleaned the lens, but no bail.
Here in Brazil a new optic reader can be found for R$150 (around U$90). I´ve just found out the same unit in UK for 150 pounds, so i´m suspicius that those units sold here aren´t really new... I´m planning to replace mine, but first i must be sure that the problem is really caused by the reader.
I don´t know if u have already opened yours, but it´s pretty simple to replace the unit, just some screws to loose (12, if i´m not mistaken - 4 ouside, 4 holding the lens protective cover, and 4 holding two inox sticks where the reader slides over). 700s´ units are Part No DWY1067, and you probably won´t find those anymore. You´ll only find the DWY1069, originally found in CDJ-100s (technically almost same, but probably some newer technology), but they´re totally interchangeable.
Hope could be of some use.
If u want, can contact me at nandoseiji@hotmail.com

CD playback skips back and forth

Did it just stop working one day, or did you move it, use it differently, etc?

Sounds like your reader/tray might be bad, but could also be a faulty circuit which may have shorted out. If your handy with a multimeter, you might be able to trouble shoot it. Make sure there is nothing lodge in there, and when you opened it up, did you see any broken pieces from the tray? Sometimes the teeth on the gears crack and break off, so check that also. You can't miss the gears, this is what allows the CD to move in/out of the unit.

Good luck!
